Voting in presidential elections is completely pointless for most people unless you happen to live in a swing state, otherwise your vote doesn't count with that fucked up electoral college bullcrap. I've never voted in my life and never will until that ancient institution and practice is rectified, it will be someday. If you wanted to vote Republican for example and lived in California or anywhere in New England, your wasting your time, your state's votes automatically go to the Democratic party. A third party vote is even more of a waste of time. I almost think you should get paid to vote.

It's somewhat akin to jury duty, the biggest waste of time ever ! I did that once, never again. I didn't get the notification is my excuse if ever called again, send it to me via registered mail so you have proof I received it if you ever want to draft me for that crap again , that's another reason not to vote, increases your chances of being called to jury duty.

I am warming up A bit to Trump, he's definitely unlike be any other more generic politician like a Bush, Clinton, Obama or anyone else. I don't agree with all he says and does, but he is a man that tries to do what he says like with his wall, he's almost comical with all of his Twitter activity, but a no BS guy and quite capable of dropping some bombs on some insurgent country, a man to fear

Not voting also affects many local candidates and laws that affect you.

Do you know why the electoral vote works? Because the midwest would never see a candidate. All resources would be spent on the coasts. Ask Hillary how not campaigning in Michigan worked out for her.

So you're ok with NY, Calif and Florida electing our POTUS each election?

Is that what happened last election ? As I recall Hillary won by 3 million votes, yet lost the election. Using the popular vote just seems proper to me, I'm actually fine with Trump over her, but that's changing the subject

I don't see how that equates to NY,Ca, and Florida deciding the election, it's more like the swing States are all that matters anymore and most states are just about automatically red or blue regardless of the candidates, that's where your vote means the least, the very states you list. It's all a farce anyway there is a higher power ( and I don't mean God) that really runs the Gov't, the president is somewhat of a figure head like the queen of England. Why does Canada put the queen on their money ? ,BTW to really throw this thread a curve ball since it's baseball time finally

Because with a popular election not an electoral college in place, the most populous states will determine the outcome of the election every 4 years. Do you understand?

So, you are ok with with cities electing the president, and not the states?

What would the popular vote count have been if, say, we threw out how Los Angeles voted? Or throw out NY, NY....

The electoral college is in place so BIG cities cant dictate policy for the WHOLE USA, throwing out less populous states, farming communities, small towns, etc... this way EVERY state has a voice in how the ENTIRE country should be run. Not just how the 3-4 biggest cities in the US decide it should be run.

Look at the 2016 voting map... that should be enough to show you WHY the electoral college is in place.

It's NEVER about being the best we got, NEVER

Career politicians simply can't hold that mantle. Trump's better than career politicians. He's a big improvement in the policy arena and at least he's working to keep his promises, he's not all talk like everyone else. But he's a child in the political arena, and he can't keep out of the trivial matters he should avoid and he tends to say some stupid stuff. He gives his critics ammo and enables them to avoid anything of substance as they attack him nonstop

He's not perfect, but he's not totally incompetent like the rest of them either
Well shit Negro, that's all to had to say.

One of the dumbest, most obtuse, ignorant posts on this subject I have ever seen...

Swing states matter in the electoral college only, moron. If it was popular votes then swing states would not matter at all, moron.
If it was popular vote then the election would be decided by CA, NY, IL, etc So only about 6-8 states located on the coasts, which by the way are pretty
much blue would decide elections. The other 40 or so states would not even matter at all. Then you would have 40 plus states with no representation
as those states would decide all elections, moron.

You need to go read up on how the electoral college works and get back to us. Idiot!!!

Eliminating the electoral college actually makes most votes less valuable. The candidates wouldn't even care about the vast majority of states and the majority of people. Only a few cities would matter, nobody else.

To make each vote more valuable you should do away with winner take all states. Make every district count, make politicians fight for districts in all 50 states. The exact opposite of the popular vote.

Career politicians and the criminal corrupt colluding always lying democratic media are inherently dishonest, they'll never tell you the truth. They always go for the simpleton bullshit that serves their political agenda
