20 million dollars was just offered to Favre too simply retired. What does this mean?

Do I really need to continue. OK evidently I do. Think about this some of the best players of the league don't even make 25% of this amount in a year!!

Fact is these owners/teams are making huge chunks of cash and with Goodell at the helm its an easier job for these big boys to count their change without much effort.

Look at this rookie plan their trying to propose. They want to do what the NBA is doing by limiting the pay for new incumbents (just to use a big word). Like Drew said weeks back rookies earning big salaries only help veterans with their contracts. How so? Hmm lets think. If Darren Mcbabydaddy makes a few more mil a year than lets say Ronnie Brown (just to use a Dolphin) and Ronnie is outperforming baby daddy then Ronnie can demand more money. Naturally ESPN with their ignorant commentators like Levens state that Rookies which have "yet to prove anything shouldn't be granted big contracts". Trust me the word granted stated by Levens but I felt like helping a moron out.

I simply want to make you all aware that this simply is a refection of what this country has become. J-O-K-E

Note: I'm just sick of tired of this league and ESPN promoting it. Honestly its everything wrong with sports and this country. Look what Directv is charging for Sunday Ticket. What a joke.

BTW I'm paying for the Sunday Ticket in order to show games at my restaurant. Sick.

Ah, you forget to state, "A source close to the discussions stated. . ." Sounds like the same source that stated the GM said "don't come back or I'll get fired" and "i haven't considered playing for the Minneapolis vikings" and "I don't have the desire to play anymore." this was leaked by the favre spin machine (bus cook) to make the pack management look even more imcompetent on this subject. It worked. I agree that if this is true, it reeks of desperation on the packers part. Let him come back and compete for the starting job and get this fricking thin over with.

Actually it is also a joke to take this report at face value.

We have no idea if this is true...there are now reports that it is not true.

There have been other false reports with this whole story...leading one to suggest both sides are playing the game with leaks, false leaks ect.

Lets not jump the gun so fast.

The NFL is the best sporting league in the entire world, hands down IMO. NHL is #2 to me, but NFL is by far the best. This story is complete bs and even if it were true I personally wouldn't care. Favre is a problem to the Packers and they try making the problem go away with money, it happens in the business world every single day. This is a business and you do what is best for your organization. If that means paying off Brett to retire to keep the fans shut then that's what you do. I don't believe for a second that it's true, but if it is it is understandable.

Also about players leaving to go to hated teams; Did Johnny Damon not leave the Sox to play for the Yankees, which is possibly the biggest rival in all of sports? Manny would have signed with the Yankees in a second in free agency if they offered him the most money, and as he should. This is their jobs and they should go to whichever team will pay them the most, unless they would be personally more happy somewhere else for less. That is true for every sport.

1) is the story true? why wouldnt GB just trade him to the Jets and actually get something in return instead of shelling out 20+ million?

2) directv is charging you less than $1 per game. Not a bad price if you ask me.

3) yes nfl and the owners make money hand over fist. the players make a good chunk of change too. and the networks. there arent many losers in this cash cow.

this whole ordeal makes me like favre significantly less than before. too bad. he jerked around GB too many times.

nfl draft system is a joke. all leagues should be like the nba with slotted salaries. ryan, mcfadden getting contracts like that is embarrassing for the league.

it is a PR thing. they dont want afvre playing for anyone at any cost. they regret this all but they have to keep their word to rodgers since they have groomed him for 4 years and he is in a contract year next season and if they lose him they are hella fucked.

plus 2 mil a year over 10 years, not 20 million one time. lots of teams do this to iconic players after they retire. cushy front office jobs.

1)story is true. it truly reflects how poorly that GB "brain trust" has handled the situation. They simply want to end things on their terms. Despicable.

2)5 payments of 57.99 isn't exactly pocket change in a declining economy. $1 a game? way to spin it. You should be used for promos.

Note: A decade ago my father paid $45 for cable. I now pay $85 (at my residence) without even receiving a premium channel.

3)Favre is brilliant. He knew GB wanted him out and he came back simply to demand a trade. I'm sure he also knew that Thompson (and company) wouldn't give in to his demands easily. The league (Goodell) had to step in order to resolve this PR nightmare. Unfortuantely hes simply not the one with the big stick.

2) Yes, the price has gone up. And as a gambler, paying $250 or whatever it is now, is still worth it to me. And as a gambler, if I dont have "pocket change" I shouldnt be buying NFL Sunday Ticket nor gambling. There are other ways to watch the games without costing so much (stream online, friends house, head to a bar, etc)

A decade ago your father payed 90 cents a gallaon for gas. Guess what, prices go up due to inflation.

3) So...Favre didnt want to come back to play for GB. He only came back to demand a trade and piss off the GB management and fans? What a jerk.

Look...here's my beef with Favre:

If you retired from your job and left the company. Your company goes out and hires a replacement for you. Got them all settled into your old position.
Then you come back 6 months later and DEMAND they re-hire you, WTF is that company supposed to do? They have your replacement at a cheaper price. They'll tell you to go away.

Favre has been jerking GB mgmt around for years now. "I'm retiring". "I'm coming back". "I'm really retiring". "I think I may come back but I'm not sure give me some more time". Boo hoo. Tears. Very diva-like.

Sorry, I have no sympathy for Brett at all.

As far as GB mgmt...I will agree they have completey effed up this situation. Completely sick of this whole situation and having to hear about every hour on the hour.
