it had nothing to do with RPI or better resume, it has everything to do with committee representation.

First, the committee

The 2014-15 NCAA men's basketball tournament selection committee is chaired byUtah State AD Scott Barnes. He will be the one tasked with doing the television interviews and defending the 68-team field after it is announced on the Selection Show on CBS.

Barnes' Vice Chairman is Oklahoma AD Joe Castiglione. He will serve as chairman for the 2015-16 season.

Here is a complete list of the rest of the 2014-15 NCAA men's basketball tournament committee:

using Joe Lunardi's bubble teams represented on the committee were 9-1 in getting in. Every bubble team from every major conference which had representation on the committee made the tournament.

LSU? just their AD was in the committee
UCLA? conference represented
GA & Ole Miss? that LSU AD was popular and powerful. I'm guessing that dude wined and dined everybody all year long.
TX? just the Vice Chairman getting more money for his conference
OK St? see TX
The commissioner was able to land 2 at large bids for his conference. I'm guessing he came close to securing 4 bids for the Mountain West, but had to settle for 3.

CO St was the only exception to the rule. There just weren't enough bubble spots to accommodate them. The committee would have to leave a LOCK out to let them in. and that lock would have come from another major conference. I guess the scum thought that might be a little too far to reach, so the couldn't make the MWC a four bid conference. (although I'm sure there was some talk about leaving Cincy out too. No way they would screw with an ACC bid)

Make it more like the football Selection process. Have retired coaches with basketball knowledge be on the committee with some ex players and a couple announcers (so the entire committee is not 79 years old just NO Dick Vitale. They are retired; they have the time to watch these games. I doubt some female AD is watching. Having current AD's that prob. don't even watch the games much do it seems stupid. Just too many teams. Of course in football they meet throughout the year. Not for 4 days in Indy in some plush suite full of lobster.; You could have 15 members from 15 conferences.

Doesn't matter. There are only 10-15 teams that are legitimate contenders. The rest are window dressing. There are too many bowl games and too many teams in the basketball tourney. It's all about money, but everyone knows that.

I can get on board with Temple, Miami and CSU, but Murray St had no business being in this tournament. They beat no one and got smoked by both NCAA tournament teams they played out of conference. They had 1 top 100 win and a strength of schedule over 250.

No, it's not even most of them. Using the college football selection committee wasn't a good example. Out of 13 on the committee only 4 or 5 are true football guys. It's basically the same as the basketball committee. A bunch of old AD's and a couple of appointed "experts" who never had anything to do with the game...

Most years the committee does a pretty good job, this year there were more head scratchers than normal. I would love to see a rule that a team has to have a winning conference record to be eligible, weve seen enough of these middle of the pack large conference teams

oh man college basketball has gone down the tube the last couple of years. Ever since the hand checking foul the refs can call whatever they want.

It's all about the money. They want teams in that fans will travel to see. They want big name schools in so people will watch on TV. This tournament is no different than any of the other sports, it's all about making the most money.
