The Term Degenerate

My friends like to call me this and I'm not sure its applicable. I have held my own over the years and surely like to gamble, but never anything I can't afford to lose. What's your definition of this. DO you have to lose, bet often...etc.?

I use that term to refer to myself and others like me in a self deprecating manner. I gamble on sports for a living. basketball and college football only. I dont do any other kind of gambling. Dont have a nine to five job, watch tv all day or am on the computer all day, drink a hefty bit of alcohol (but dont get drunk while watching games), have a cabinet stocked with all kinds of stomach treating prescriptions and pretty much dont wake up until tony Soprano is up in his draws picking up his news paper!

In otherwords a degenerate is some one who is going to sit around the house doing totally nothing but twiddling their thumbs and suffering from serious gambling withdrawal for the next two months waiting for football season!!!!

im not saying you dont. nor am i saying that you're a degenerate. all i am saying is that to be a true degenerate, you have to bet the horses everyday...or you have to bet a harness race at least three times a week.
