Oh please. Obama's quote is nothing compared to the good old days of "We need to counter the shockwave of the evildoer by having individual rate cuts accelerated and by thinking about tax rebates" or "We spent a lot of time talking about Africa, as we should. Africa is a nation that suffers from incredible disease."
two things
1- for years the left criticized Bush, correctly, of using scare tactics to get his bills passed and now just 2 weeks into this guy's term he decides to follow suit?
2- if he was really about "hope and change" and "governing differently" wouldn't the correct response been something to the effect of "I strongly urge you to pass my stimulus bill but the democratic process must run its course. If your elected leaders do not feel this is the right plan to get this economy ignited, we'll get back to work and put together a different plan".
oh well call me crazy...the same you can believe in
In fairness, I think Obama was referring to the second clause (about getting bonuses) and not the first (about making profits) when he said "Now is not that time".
Besides, don't you think these guys can live on $500K?
There is no fairness in politics. ~~:<<
and besides since when is it governments job to bailout these companies and then also set a cap on wages. This is straight out of the manifesto mama and you know it, you little populist you.
:lolBIG:
Please provide the broader context of this quote. I think, although I don't really know, that the "them" this quote (probably from a larger speech) refers to is only corporate executives of those receiving TARP money and and both the profits and bonuses he refers to is that of those executives, not of their businesses or of businesses in general.
