Do you think the KC Royals would be at least a .500 team if...
...they played in Double-AA?
I'm not certain. And I'm not kidding.
This team is atrocious. Absolutely awful. Their lineup is peppered with batters treading water just to stay above the Mendoza line. Aside from Mike Sweeney, not only would none of their starters start on any other major league team...I don't know that most of them would even be on any other team's major league roster. Maybe Matt Stairs might be the 25th man on the A's, the most offensively challenged team in MLB. Maybe. And only cuz he used to play for them, and there is a certain nostalgia element in MLB.
It's sad...this team used to be on the cusp of the level of the A's, Twins, and Expos of yesteryear...teams with extremely limited budgets and no ability to pursue big-name free agents or hold on to players who blossom under their tutelage, but who nonetheless have been competitive year-in and year out. But they've been absolutely abysmal for the last couple of years and are a living example for why baseball should institute a minimum salary cap.
They are a waste. Only positive thing they have going for em is that all their players are young, and in all likelihood, will improve. And when that happens, they'll probably lose em.
