Christian - I understand you were just covering one aspect of the whole process. I just wanted to point out that there is a ton of data involved in capping these games. Let's put a hurtin' on the books this year!

got it....i was just hoping that my post didn't give the impression to anyone that that's all it took to formulate a pitching/defensive value for an upcoming game.

anyway, good luck to you! i'm sure we'll talk throughout the season!

i'll probably post my batting/offensive formulas sometime during the 1st two weeks of the season (once we have actual examples to use from the early games of the season, instead of just hypothetical values)...

i just have to try to condense it into a easy-reading post...i tend to ramble a bit :) ha ha

Don't overconcern yourself with WHIP. There are a large amount of pitchers who have higher than normal WHIPs but don't allow many runs.

Yes, but those pitchers normally fall into a category accounted for by something else, defense rating etc..

Yeah, guys that have good K rates and don't give up home runs can overcome higher WHIP's. Not surprising really. And those stats, along with BB rates, are really the only things pitchers can control anyway. Once the balls in play it's in the hands of the defense.
