MAJORITY RULES.
(select the team that fits "at least" 2 out of the 3 scenarios.)

#1 TAKE THE BETTER COACH.
#2 TAKE THE POINTS.
#3 TAKE THE HOME TEAM.

rule #1 is not open to interpretation.
the better coach is gauged by his professional head coaching numbers as follows...

superbowl wins
superbowl appearances
playoff wins
playoff appearances
better overall regular season record and consistency thereof.

applying this to week one...

thur NYG at NE(3).....NEW ENGLAND-3
fri TB at MIA(3).....TAMPA BAY+3
ST.L at OAK(3)...ST.LOUIS+3
sat PIT at DET(P)....???
IND at CHI(3)....INDIANAPOLIS+3
JAX at MIN(3)....MINNESOTA-3
CLE at TEN(3)....TENNESSEE-3
GB at ATL(3).....ATLANTA-3
BUF at BALT(3)...BALTIMORE-3
WASH(3) at CAR...CAROLINA+3
DEN(3) at HOU....HOUSTON+3
SF at KC(3)......KANSAS CITY-3
SD at SEA(3.5)...SEATTLE-3.5
DAL(3) at ARIZ...ARIZONA+3
sun CIN at NYJ(5)....NY JETS-5
mon PHI at NO(1.5)...PHILADELPHIA+1.5

let's see if it falls flat or not.
definately not proven or to be taken seriously as advice.(obviously)

Looks like a great formula to me for the preseason coupled with common sense. Game #1 stars with a win.

Luck has got little to do with it. Common sense capping will win in the preseason.

Holds the edge after the line movement got off the PK to Detroit +1. Almost makes me want to go the other way with Pitt LOL

Statistically speaking, week 1 road teams have won ats 66% of the time over the past 5 years, and 70% of the time over the last 3 years and also last year alone. Please note that two out of the three week one winning teams were road teams - about a 66% rate.
This might skew your "take the home team" rule for week one and should be factored into your calculations.

By the way - that's a damned good idea - I'll be looking at it and maybe "borrowing" it for my lexicon - if you don't mind.

Thanks, and

Good luck!

i thought about that stat and realized it just didn't stand up strong enough by it's own very nature to merit choosing it over any of the original three.

thanks..GL

There might not be a selection on that game as we watch this play out but I really wish I had gotten down on Pitt, because everyone including their grandma is on Det!..LOL

Maybe I read something wrong, but rule #1 says better coaches. Isn't Mike Shanahan the better coach in the Denver / Houston game?

Best two outa three gets the play, Texans get the play because of #1 they are home & #2 they are the dog!

In my book this simple sytstem is 4-0 because at kickoff Detroit was +1 & they were the home team!
