Unemployment taxes are paid by the employer and NOT the employee.

When someone on unemployment gets their money, its the recipient's option to have taxes taken out or not

I wasn't aware of that since everyone I know at my business has had taxes taken out. I wonder if you have to opt out as opposed to opt in since no one told me they asked to have taxes taken out.

It's one of the questions asked while initially making a claim and filing for UE benefits, in my State anyways. 10% federal and 7% State tax taken out or withheld.

Now on the $600 (now $400), I was under the impression it came as a flat $600 ($400), haven't heard of a tax on it (yet anyways)...lol

Yep, 10% taken off the whole amount (including the additional benefit)
