The OU game had a terrible, terrible, moronic line

Someone in Vegas had to have lost their job over this and no, not because the line was set in OU's favor. How could anyone think, in a primetime game, with a team that is hot, followed by many, highly ranked, and has arguably the best player in the country, set this line against OSU to -1.5 and not think the action is going to come unbalanced. I've bet OSU many many times this year and they have been good to me but there is not way I would give even consideration to playing them unless the line was 6+.

I just don't understand how professional linemakers could release a line like that to the public and expect action to come 50-50.

Very true sir. This is not the OSU defensive team of years past. What an oversight!!!!!

I went big on OU because I loved the line and yes, many argued that it was a possible trap. But, either way, anyone looking at that -1.5 would agree that the public would hammer OU hard. I just don't understand how no one looked at that like and was like, "I like OSU in this spot but if we release this line at -1.5, bets are going to come in very, very unbalanced."

Well I would agree that they probably don't, but I don't think they want to get drowned like they did tonight either, and trust me they were drenched on this one & the over as well!

its a big misconception that books want 50-50 action.

I don't know what the actual #s were on the game and to tell you the truth I don't really look but if the books did get hit they don't really care. Its a long season and trust me they will get it back

Please don't mistake this for being rude but could you please explain to me why books don't want even action?

they don't want 50-50 they just don't want to be lopsided. Trust me a book would rather have one side then to be 50-50 every game.

who says the books want 50-50?

Of course, they want a short line as they had, then almost everybody and their pastor who never, ever made a bet in his life jump on that short number and Vegas loses a ton when the bad line wins.

If they'd have set the line at 6 or better they could have split the betting and walked away with the juice, this way they just hemorrhage money from every orifice when almost everybody that bet the game collects.

Not taking it rude at all,

you are right in some ways by saying that books don't want huge action on one side or another but to say 50-50 I believe is stretching it.

You figure in the long run a book that wins on maybe a 40-60 or a 30-70 is gonna get paid much more. upsets etc

A book prob picks up a majority of his winnings off teases and parlays

I hope someone else can chime in but from what I have seen in past this is mostly the case.........if I am off base please correct me.

They never set the lines for 50/50 action, they set them where they believe they are SUPPOSED to be and move according to action.

There was a A LOT of big sharp money coming on OK St FYI. All the pub action was on OU, but there was some big money on Okie St as well.

Oklahoma is not that good of a team at all and Vegas knows this. Vegas just keeps underestimating just how bad the Big 12 is this year. Put Oklahoma in the ACC, Pac 10 or Big East and they don't even finish in the top 3.
