I was posting at a PT-related forum and thought that some of this info might come in handy to some of the expats that hang out here. Many of the services may already be familiar to regular travelers. I spend as much as nine months out of the year on the road, four of which are usually outside the U.S. and find most of the below services indispensible.
Online Telecommunications and Internet
Send and receive voicemail, faxes, conference calls, no special hardware required with
J2.
Another Internet fax solution is e-fax.
DialPad features low phone rates to and from over 200 countries using a PC phone.
I2Roam offers international ISP access with VPN support.
For international callback, calling cards and other useful services, try gphone. (can even "trigger" a callback to any number via their web site, email, or SMS.)
Another global internet access solution is MAG.
International Cyber/Internet Cafe Directories
CyberCaptive has 6,812 verified cybercafes, public internet access points and kiosks in 170 countries
CyberCafes.com has 4208 internet cafes in 140 countries
Hardware, Software and General Gadgetry

The Trek Thumbdrive and the M-Systems DiskOnKey are crucial mini portable data solutions -- good for carrying around your essential data and info when you can't have access to your own system. I am also working on a JAVA client with its own mini-OS patterned on Win98 that will house a complete sportsbook account inside, eliminating the worry of using work or other sensitive computers for gambling, and also eliminating privacy concerns of using public systems to access private account data.
