I was going to post this anyways, but Shrink's topic on "adavnced gambling" really goes hand in hand with what I wanted to say.
The reason why guys lose at gambling is lack of vision. Or in iother words worrying too much about the here and now, and missing the bigger picture.
All you see are guys putting up records for the day, the previous day, or the past month...SO?
That just shows that these guys porobably aren't very successful at gambling.
Simialr to guys who put up a lock that can't lose. Win or lose, it also shows they probably lose more than they win.
Guys that actually make money do it like a business, one loss or one win has no greater meaning to the overall picture than any other winner or loser.
So you lost, who gives a shit, as long as you make money in the end who cares?
That is why the Shrink's point is good for guys who dwell on shit too much. If it loses, so what? But if I was on the wrong side of a move, I might take some interest, so I might watch the game to see what is up. And as long as my action wasn't overextended I might take a shot at the half, as long as there was value. But I would do that for any game I was watching and knew the line or had a bet on.
You see it all the time, guys that like to bet early, then late. Either chasing losers, or extending winners. Why? To have a good DAY. Who cares about a day? If you gamble all the time, everyday and on all sports, a day shouldn't mean anything to you.
Depending on how you "pay" yourself, that is what you should focus on. If you take out a withdrawel a month, then as long as your balance is above the pre-establlished number, then all is good. If not, then no "payment", do better next month.
This pretty much all goes hand in hand with discipline, but even discipline is secondary to the overall view most guys take towards gambling.
Another side effect besides chasing and pressing, is what bad beats can do to guys. That usually blows most guys mind. Either pissing them off, or making them question their own abilities, or even question the legitimacy of the contest i.e. "the fix was in".
If they don't put nay more emphasis on that game than any other, then a bad beat won't disturb them at all, let alone do crazy things to their psyche.
Same as line changes, and being on the "wrong side" of a change. Generally so what, you made a mistake, especially in spread based sports, because 80% of the time, that line change doesn't mean a thing when it comes to the spread.
And if it does, and it does come down to being the difference, then back to my main pint. It was just another loss, and will be forgotten tomorrow. At the end of the year, it will just be another tally mark in either the win or loss column.
I think this way of thinking is what really seperates the winners from the losers. Winners have no memory, and losers never forget.
