How’s it feel to be a Punk? Never in a million years would I ever considered that question as an adult but here we are. Strange, strange days. I grew up listening to classic punk but more than that I was into Hardcore NY City “punk”. Bands like: Judge, Sick of it all, Reagan Youth, Youth of Today… these bands were very political and very much liberal.

I grew up and realized eh, some of the music I loved simply doesn’t agree with my political persuasion (Rage Against the Machine fits this mold). Doesn’t mean I don’t like the music anymore. Doesn’t mean I don’t still listen to this music. It just means I’m a logical adult. I can respect different ideas and opinions without losing my mind, getting caught up in my feelings, unlike:

NeoLiberals

It was the Reagan Youth who made a living off trolling Ronald Reagan. He was the establishment then. He represented an archetype of stuffy/wealthy success and a generation out of touch with the young punk culture of the day. It made sense. It sold a lot of records too.
Now we have seen the script flipped completely. My friends, we are no longer the party of stuffy/wealthy success. All those average white rural voters clinging to your guns and factories jobs and Bibles… that’s us. Used to be Democrats. Used to be Union Democrats. Not no more.
All these white millennial males sick of being told to check their privilege. Tired of being told they were the beneficiaries and somehow responsible for someone else’s struggle. Them too

Women not willing to ride that third wave of feminism as they know what we know & how that ride ends: face up washed up ragged and weathered on the shore, too old to bear children and too bitter to admit they were wrong. Women sick of being told their right to life isn’t “woman” enough for them and their marches. That somehow they are lesser because they don’t want to murder and self-mutilate themselves. They represent us as well.

Black women and men sick of being called derogatory names for refusing to live or support the Democratic welfare plantation. Being disrespected for thinking for themselves. People who want to work hard and raise their children without a preexisting excuse for failure. People who refuse to support a nefarious genocide that is Planned Parenthood. Or make excuses for the savagery that has become the inner city. Got ‘eeem

Thirty years ago in the age of punk, It was the right that used to try and shut down concerts. It was the right that wanted the explicit warnings on records (with the lead assist from Tipper Gore of course). The right used to blow up abortion clinics. The right was who started the war on drugs. The right was the authoritarian shadow over culture; so rebelling was easy. But the Right took a Libertarian red-pill over the last few years… and now, that’s all been erased & reversed. We are the new punk rock

“A MINORITY DICTATING WHAT’S GOOD FOR THE MAJORITY”

Now it’s the left and their SJW’s and AntiFas who are not only protesting free speech but rioting when they don’t get their way. It’s the left forcing opposing views to be silenced. It’s the left who wants to force you to use certain pronouns because they want you to accept their transgender movement for something other than what it is (mental illness). There is now legislation passed in Canada and NYC for offenders who do not properly address the victim’s gender, heaven forbids we would be “misgendering” them.

This is the new-left. The Neoliberalists. The Nihilists. This is the face of fascism & this is what fascists do. I just wish they didn’t hide under those masks so much.

Pussies.

Another great write for my morning coffee. Thanks fletch. I think you've grown in your absence from here. Some people get stuck on the journey of life. Some incorporate some of the stones they have trodden over into their being while on the journey. The journey continues. It's good, growth.

Good stuff here! My gf's son who goes to Cal was told one day to check his white privilege . Funny thing was it was a white kid that said it to him. Being a white male in California is now the minority

Brother, you have nonidea. But I appreciate you being cognitive of my journey because you're astute to pick up on that. I guess we spend enough time in here to know each other pretty well but like you said it's hard sometimes to grow. I know a lot of people over the last election that got red pilled. Alit of liberals and Democrats and I had a hand in that with my circles. I went from be a raging agnostic to someone who is on his was to being born again. I grew up in a church but it was by force hahah. My family gave us no choises. But it's different now. The more I dug and still dig the more obvious it is of what we are dealing with. It's good and evil. That's it. Doesn't always come with a R or a D but right now the liberal agenda aligned with Islam and the deep state tells me we are on the right side. And oh yhea with that my conservative mindset only grew hahaha

Boss, that's the thing I don't get that whole white privilege nonsense. If white people have it better than you its because their parents sacrifice or worked hard to provide for their kids. In today's society there is no reason for anyone to complain about opportunities. Why no Asian privilege? They are smarter than whites on testing, make more money, don't suffer from crime as much... yet you bring that up to someone and they look at you like you took a shit on their feet. And California is the worst. We all know that but what we seen at Berkeley has been brewing up for a few years now. Often it's the white guilt liberals who are the worst. Is her boy in school in CA?

Cal Berkeley. Kid worked his ass off both in school (4.0) and at jobs to get where he is.

Props on another thoughtful piece Fletcher. And the Harry Kalas reference (Got 'eeem). I digress.... How come when Harry Kalas says, "eem" it's great but when Phil Simms does it it's annoying?

I grew up on Northern Soul and Top40. "Smiling faces, sometimes, pretend ta be yo friend." :)
And yet in my garage are plenty of records with Tipper's parental warning labels affixed to them.

I never saw the terms liberal or conservative as bad words and didn't know they were until venturing into rooms like this. To me all societal changes were the result of liberal movements, both good and bad. The people who dumped the tea into the haabah were liberals (did they have the accent yet)? That was a good thing, no? The people who try to force their religion upon others are usually conservative.

Fletch is right, it is about good and evil. Mostly. Yet some will say the doctor who performs abortions is evil and the guy who shoots up the abortion clinic is good, and to me that's twisted. You can debate the actions of the doctor and decide, but you must recognize the shooter is evil. So are the people who burn and loot their own main streets due to a perceived wrongdoing (by government, or "The Man"). These actions are evil regardless of the acts that triggered them.

Change (liberal) or status-quo (conservative) should occur when they are healthy for society as a whole. And there is a scale that ranges from a movement, to a protest, to a riot. Fletcher's way is to talk, or write. Silencing people, as he states is not the answer.

Always been that way and may I add, the way it should be.

It is sad to hear these kids wonder if they will have things like a house and kids and a chance at the American dream

Because Phil Simms sucks. His middle name should be Captain Obvious.
And he never knows when to STFU.

I think you bring up a great point here. We often times justify one wrong over another because it fits our narrow myopic view. That's human nature. Call it cognitive bias. A person who kills a doctor who killed 50 babies in an abortion mill is no different than the man who killed 50 babies in the abortion mill. Not in the government's eyes nor in gods eyes as a sin is a sin. There is no sin greater than another. Now WE may think otherwise. WE may take pleasure in that justice. It goes back 5k years ago (Old Test) and probably 100-200,000 years before that. The herd gets upset there must be a swift and just correction. But, if we are blowing up abortions mills or killing DR's because we are Christians than we are failing Jesus because he came with a different command, to love your enemy and turn the other cheek. So, from that perspective the man killing the DR is 100% in the wrong all across the board from an American Christian in the US present day.

I grew up not knowing a conservative and liberal. It was me listening to Rush Limbaugh with my grandfather who retired early after 40 years at Bucyrus Erie. He was early 60's and would pick me up and i would have summer school cause i was a fucker and a hooligan and i would come home and eat lunch with him listening to the ol' EIB Network. Then i began to know of Feminazis and the hard left.... now look at them? They would be conservative now those 1990-1993 libs. My grandmother was a devout Catholic and was a Regan Dem. She wanted a saftey net but didnt care for liberal social issues. Makes sense beiing a catholic. But those days were healthy society wise. Anymore, i dont know what has happened but it seems the scales have tipped to far laft.

I had a uncle i looked up to. He was 7 years older only but he got me into Curtis Mayfield, Freddie hubbard... and punk rock. I owe him alot ofr that influence. But man that temptations was legit. One of the most underrated songs of that era. It had THAT SOUND. That Mayfield, Blaxplotation sound to it. Just talented musicans and gifted singers... nothing like that today. Maybe thats the problem? In all seriousness. Seems like everything has crumbled. Music was great unifaction of people.

I dont mind a disagreement. In fact i prefer them. It only sharpens ones mind. People who dont want to hear an opposing view is dangerous. I remeber a quote once, give me a man who read 1000 books and ill have a great companion give me a man that has read 3 and i ll show you a great enemey. That kind of applies here.

He is so average. I dont understand the pairing. Nance is a prick but hes good. It feels like every game he needs to explain the game to one person who has never watched a football game before. Or maybe hes just a simpleton? Ignorant hillbilly.

It is. We have alot of work to do. But alot can be changed with just a simple attitude adjustment and a few pen strokes. Lets stop pushing this 4 year college mindset on the masses. It doesnt jive with reality. Push for more tech schools. Show kids who much you can make with a trade as opposed to just a piece of paper in liberal arts that wont get you jack shit in the real world. We are giving these kids a bait and switch. Plus the debt. The more you subsidize a sector the more inflation. That goes for healthcare too. We need to raise interest rates. Give people an incentive to save again. Then we wouldn't need only 3% down to buy a house thus the bubbles would be hard to start. It would royally fuck us for a bit but its necessary for long-term growth. Reagans explosion was made possible by clearing out malinvestment with high-interest rates. What came afterward was an explosion of wealth and that led to the internet.

We need to rebuild the middle class. Its been under siege since the 1970's losing people every decade. No middle class = no american dream = no america.

I cringe when the Steelers are the game of the week on CBS.
It's bad enough to see Omar Epps on the side line but I don't
need Simms telling me what a great coach he is.

Especially if it's a Liberal Arts degree. There's nothing wrong with being an electrician or plumber.

If the Steelers had a great coach, I would have been at a parade 2 weeks ago. So, no, they do not have any great coaches. Willie's team? Different story.

The only one I consider as top shelf is Munchak.
The rest are average at best. And yes, the Hoody
is in a league of his own.
