Nothing prevents playoffs, that is just the system they use to determine champions. I am more discussing the bottom side. You can have playoffs at the top and not impact the relegation at the bottom. The Mexican soccer league has both playoffs at the top and relegation at the bottom, I think Brazil does too but I don't follow the south american leagues. There are also often playoffs to determine promotion in the lower divisions.

this is true, which is why my favorite leagues in fifa 08 for ps2 to play in are the mexican and usa mls.

I generally agree with Bigten's argument that something is 'wrong' when the NBA dosn't make a show out of the suspense of lottery balls while they spend minutes of wrestlemania flootlit smoked fireworks to introduce players in big games. I recall the past drafts showing ping balls bouncing (which isn't really anything- I am building an electronic circuit that hacks tenths of seconds into and out of each second on a standard scoreboard clock from a remote location, so anything can be 'hacked' whether is ping pong balls or seconds). My question to the spreadsheet experts here is what percentage of the few NBA lottery long shot balls fell into big city/big TV market slots?

they didnt show the ping pong balls like they used to b/c there arent ping pong balls anymore. i think its some random numbers generator with thousands of combinations, its much more complex. if it was fixed, why in the hell would they send oden and durant to two of the smallest markets (portland & seattle) last year

Durant to Seattle was an attempt to save the team and get a new arena.

Why do you think Lebron went to Cleveland, the team was about to fold or move, it doesn't look good your organization, when every few years a team keeps moving.

Portland has one of the best fan bases in the NBA and with the exception of Shaq, big men don't sell.

I am not sitting here saying that everything in the NBA is fixed, but David Stern has more influence over his league than any other commish in a negative manner.

When Dallas played SA in the conference finals, David Stern said to the head officials I don't want to ever see 64 free throws in a game again, the next game their were 27 free throws.

I have no problem with Kobe and Lebron getting a certain number of calls, but the league has become a farce.

Players have guaranteed contracts and don't care. The Refs dance on foul calls like they are actors.

In 1985, the first year of the draft Lottery, one the most prominent players in CBB history goes to the bricks, why even have a lottery.

My personal favorite thing about the NBA is when a team at home is down and basically they want to give the offense the ball, the famous 3 second call is made. This call can be made during the game so many times, but it never occurs.

Does Lebron really need to take 3 to 4 steps to the basket everytime?

The best solution to the lottery is to have the drawing for the 1st pick only. The worst team can only slide one pick then.

That doesn't resolve tanking, teams would still tank to become the 3rd worst instead of the 6th worst. Only thing that would remedy the tanking is promotion/relegation or equivalent amount of balls per team (or, one ball per team) and pull the balls to determine the entire front of the draft order (like they did when Ewing was drafted). That would give GSW the same shot as Miami to get the #1 spot and wouldn't incent any team to lose games. That may or may not be better than the current situation, but those are the only two ways I can think of to prevent tanking.

GMs and owners with their wheeling and dealing would exploit the shit out of something like that. Ideally, that would probably work out the best.

Funny with this rigged thing. If New York had won the thing is rigged, if miami had won it was rigged, if chicago had won its rigged. David Stern must have been a huge Orlando Magic fan back in the early 90s.

show the god damned thing on tv so people can see........then there would be less controversy.......%^_

youd come up with something else. like theres a ten second delay so they can put more knicks balls into the hopper and stir them up so the knicks can end up with the top pick.

like i told new money, you just gotta let these nba bashers have there say and move on.
