[h=1]Trump will fire National Security adviser H.R. McMaster soon: report[/h]
President Trump will fire his National Security adviser H.R. McMaster soon, according to a report.
Although a replacement has not been named, the Washington Post reports that the three-star general is out.
Other reports say that McMaster, whose ouster has been rumored for months, will leave once he has figured out his next move.
The White House spokeswoman denied the president was getting rid of McMaster.
“Just spoke to @POTUS and Gen. H.R. McMaster - contrary to reports they have a good working relationship and there are no changes at the NSC,” Sarah Huckabee Sanders tweeted.
The President has been unhappy with the cabinet adviser for some time, but McMaster’s recent statement confirming Russian meddling in the 2016 election especially rankled him, according to CNBC.
“General McMaster forgot to say that the results of the 2016 election were not impacted or changed by the Russians,” Trump tweeted out on Feb. 18
McMaster replaced Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who was fired after less than a month on the job for withholding information about a meeting with Russia’s ambassador.
McMaster sparred with fired White House strategist Steve Bannon over control of the National Security Council, but outlasted the arch-conservative.
On Thursday, McMaster called for further sanctions against Russia for war crimes during the Syrian Civil War, Politico reported.
Trump and the general have also disagreed over the White House’s Middle East policy.
