Despite the US being in debt to the tune of $17 trillion, Greenslate said he refuses to feel bad about staying in the system.

Yeah I saw this on TV.

When asked if he felt in any way guilty that he was of working age and ability but taking food stamps he replied "I qualify for the program"

Nice.

Republicans in Congress have used Greenslate as the poster-child for the need for entitlement reform. But Democrats have cast aside that notion, claiming that he doesn't represent the majority of the people who receive assistance.

'I don't give a damn about a surfer dude,' Democratic Congressman Jim McGovern said. 'As far as I'm concerned, he can walk off the nearest pier. To suggest that he's the face of SNAP is offensive.'

And there’s the rub. Is he a bum for qualifying for food stamps or are the qualifications too Liberal?

In any event I kinda like his attitude, I qualify, what’s your problem? You don’t like it, write your Congressman.

“The utopian schemes of leveling, and a community of goods are as visionary and impracticable as those which vest all property in the Crown, are arbitrary, despotic, and, in our government, unconstitutional.” - Samuel Adams

“I can find no warrant for such an appropriation in the Constitution; and I do not believe that the power and duty of the General Government ought to be extended to the relief of individual suffering which is in no manner properly related to the public service or benefit. A prevalent tendency to disregard the limited mission of this power and duty should, I think, be steadily resisted, to the end that the lesson should be constantly enforced that, though the people support the Government, the Government should not support the people. … The friendliness and charity of our fellow countrymen can always be relied on to relieve their fellow citizens in misfortune. This has been repeatedly and quite lately demonstrated. Federal aid in such cases encourages the expectation of paternal care on the part of the Government and weakens the sturdiness of our national character, while it prevents the indulgence among our people of that kindly sentiment and conduct which strengthens the bonds of a common brotherhood.” -- President Grover Cleveland

I'd rather see $1 or so go out of my check every month to this guy than the billions of tax dollars that go to the wall street Banksters government welfare program. And that is something BOTH parties are guilty of.

When you have trillions of dollars siphoning through a highly centralized political power base, you shouldn't be shocked to find out that the rich and powerful will be the first in line to take full advantage leaving nothing but crumbs for the rest of us.

Big Government is trickle down economics on steroids.

"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men."

"Unlimited power is apt to corrupt the minds of those who possess it"

"It is not only the slave or serf who is ameliorated in becoming free... the master himself did not gain less in every point of view,... for absolute power corrupts the best natures."

--- Lord Action (1834-1902)

Only ignorant, arrogant sanctimonious 'progressives' believe they can 'outsmart' human nature.

I'm not shocked. I'm saying it sucks. And THAT is what people should really be paying attention to inside of some surfer type who may have gained the system in the short term but is the exception to the rule.

I don't understand this logic. Justifying one abuse of taxpayer dollars by pointing to another. Rather than admit that the system is broken if a jackass like the guy above can game the system, you try to shift the conversation to " wall street banksters".

Except there is no "wall street bankers" government program.

However, the federal government makes $100 billion in improper welfare payments, every year.

And you can prove the system is broken? According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service, the fraud and waste rate in SNAP is roughly 1 percent, contrary to recent Fox claims that the program is rife with fraud.

This is a joke, right?

1. The Cato Institute estimates that the U.S. federal government spends $100 billion a year on corporate welfare. That’s an average of $870 for each one of America’s 115 million families.

2. $696 for Business Incentives at the State, County, and City Levels. A New York Times investigation found that states, counties and cities give up over $80 billion each year to companies… $696 for every U.S. family.
