The Longhorns beat the Sooners in their annual rivalry game and the two teams have the same 7-2 record. Yet Oklahoma was at No. 11 and two spots ahead of Texas in the AP poll.
Neither Oklahoma nor Texas are in the provisional College Football Playoff field, however. The top five conference champions are guaranteed spots in the 12-team field and the top 13 teams in the rankings are from three different conferences.
The ACC’s highest-ranked team is Virginia at No. 14 and Memphis would be the top team from outside the power conferences, though the Tigers were not ranked in the top 25 on Tuesday night.
Utah was ranked a spot ahead of the Cavaliers at No. 13 — four spots ahead of where they are in the AP poll.
