OK here it is. It's from CBS Sports.

I don't agree with the guy in a bunch of places.

Oregon #6 and USC #8?? I mean, Oregon returns about 9 players TOTAL! Notre Dame top 25??

I count 11 returning starters and 4 more positions which bring back players with a significant number of starts.

I see a lot of love for Oregon in these polls lately and I think it has to do with how impressive the offense looked in last few games of the year with Masoli gaining a comfort level.

Biggest ? marks will be at DL and WR.. Oregon is recruiting the JC ranks hard this season which tells me that the coaches believe that they are close and the addition of a few players that are a bit more mature could pay immediate dividends.

PS. Normally I dislike hitting the JC's hard like this but honestly I don't think there is another school in the country that has been able to get so much from the JC ranks in past few years.

Comparing Oregon to USC....

USC plays only 3 out of its first 9 games at home, that since the last schedule revision. Oregon's schedule is cake compared to that. I don't think the CBS poll was that far reaching to take that into account.

Oregon losing Patrick Chung and Jairus Byrd will sting. I'm not sure who else on defense but I counted over half of it. (USC even more) However they bring back almost the whole offense. Oregon only 4 starters I think on O. But I have seen some of the JC's you speak of. Very highly ranked nationally at their positions. Lots of stars.

probably star jackson?

but like i told you last year they will beat LSU and ruin thier season .

LSU's run in the west is over. you will hate your new DC. go watch UT/UCLA 2nd half and the soft coverage by the corners for further proof. your life will be hell on 3rd and long, i suffered through 15 yrs of that guy. getting rid of Chavis may have been even more important that getting rid of Fulmer

6 starters returning:
Masoli QB
Maehl WR
Kaiser OL
Thran OL
Dickson TE
Davis (starter until injury) WR

Returners who played significant time:
Blount RB
Holmes OL
Asper OL

I really have no worries on offense. None. On defense it is the DL that will be a big question losing 3 of 4 stalwarts including an AA end.

Chung and Byrd both have backups that the staff is very comfortable with in addition to verballed recruiting additions coming in. Some questions there but it will help that the LB's will be very good.

CBS top 25 has Florida and OU hooking up again and shows little or no respect for USC too much respect for Oregon and Alabama. Oklahoma State looms as a spoiler in the Big 12, California in the Pac 10, and LSU in the SEC. However if Utah gets back up there it will be the coaching job of the century if they get by Oregon, TCU, and BYU.

SI top 25 has Florida and Texas hooking up and shows little or no respect for Ohio St, TCU, and and Cal. Anyone that has Utah going 13-0 is on something and just because Kansas might win the Big 12 North does not mean it deserves a ranking (they have them 8-5 for Christ's sake.)

Based on last year half of the teams listed on these lists will not make it by seasons end. Who will they be?

I see OU and USC in the Big one - OU because I am a homer and I think they will be better next year - S. Cal because OU always fights the home team advantage when they play for a National Championship.

All in all - way too early to be making these calls.

florida_statslogo.gif

1. Florida
The buzz: Quarterback Tim Tebow's return – and the return of the entire defensive two-deep – means the Gators will head into the season at the top of the polls.
texas_statslogo.gif

2. Texas
The buzz: Quarterback Colt McCoy will be at the controls of what should be a powerful offense. And the Longhorns should have the best defense in the Big 12, too.
oklahoma_statslogo.gif

3. Oklahoma
The buzz: Quarterback Sam Bradford, TE Jermaine Gresham, OT Trent Williams and DT Gerald McCoy return, which is good news for coach Bob Stoops. But the Sooners must replace four starters on the offensive line.
usc_statslogo.gif

4. USC
The buzz: Mark Sanchez's departure causes at least a little bit of concern about the offense. But the defense should be mighty stout again.
lsu_statslogo.gif

5. LSU
The buzz: Brandon LaFell's decision to stay in school is a boost for the offense, and a revamped defensive coaching staff should get better results. The line, especially, must play better.
virginiatech_statslogo.gif

6. Virginia Tech
The buzz: The Hokies look to be the class of the ACC. As usual, the defense will lead the way. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor must become a better passer.
ohiostate_statslogo.gif

7. Ohio State
The buzz: The early loss of tailback Chris Wells hurts, and the back seven on defense must be rebuilt. The good news is that quarterback Terrelle Pryor will be going into his second season as the starter.
alabama_statslogo.gif

8. Alabama
The buzz: The Tide need to find a new quarterback and have some work to do on the offensive line. But the defense will be strong again, and there will be better depth across the board.
boisestate_statslogo.gif

9. Boise State
The buzz: The Broncos have a legit chance to go unbeaten if they can win at home against Oregon in September. Quarterback Kellen Moore should post big numbers.
oklahomastate_statslogo.gif

10. Oklahoma State
The buzz: The offense will be fine behind quarterback Zac Robinson, tailback Kendall Hunter and wide receiver Dez Bryant. The defense needs work, though, and it's up to new coordinator Bill Young to make that unit a lot better.
georgiatech_statslogo.gif

11. Georgia Tech
The buzz: It'll be the second year for the Yellow Jackets in coach Paul Johnson's offense, which could mean big numbers. Rebuilding the front four is the No. 1 priority on defense.
olemiss_statslogo.gif

12. Ole Miss
The buzz: Quarterback Jevan Snead heads what should be a potent offense. The defense was underrated nationally, and most of the key guys return. If defensive end Greg Hardy can stay healthy and out of the doghouse, he could have a monster senior season.
cal_statslogo.gif

13. California
The buzz: The Golden Bears could have some issues at linebacker. But tailback Jahvid Best has a legitimate chance to lead the nation in rushing, and the passing attack should be improved as well.
floridastate_statslogo.gif

14. Florida State
The buzz: After a few seasons as the weak link, the offensive line actually could be a team strength. Quarterback Christian Ponder needs to improve as a passer, and some playmakers must emerge on defense.
pennstate_statslogo.gif

15. Penn State
The buzz: The Nittany Lions will have to rebuild their offensive and defensive lines, their secondary and their receiving corps. At least quarterback Daryll Clark and tailback Evan Royster return, and linebacker Sean Lee is expected back from an injury that cost him the 2008 season.
kansas_statslogo.gif

16. Kansas
The buzz: The Jayhawks look as if they will be the best team in the Big 12 North. Quarterback Todd Reesing and wide receiver Desmond Briscoe should form a potent passing duo. The defense will be fine if three new starting linebackers emerge.
oregon_statslogo.gif

17. Oregon
The buzz: The Ducks lose their best linemen on both sides of the ball and the secondary needs some work. But the offense should again provide a lot of points.
uga_statslogo.gif

18. Georgia
The buzz: The Bulldogs lost three key players early – quarterback Matthew Stafford, running back Knowshon Moreno and cornerback Asher Allen. Still, this is a program with a lot of talent, and the three defections mean the Bulldogs might actually be under the radar a bit this fall.
iowa_statslogo.gif

19. Iowa
The buzz: Star running back Shonn Greene is gone, but the Hawkeyes still will be a run-oriented team, thanks to a solid line. The defense should be fine.
tcu_statslogo.gif

20. TCU
The buzz: The Horned Frogs need to replace more than half of their starting defense, but it has gotten to the point where coordinator Dick Bumpas can plug in a new guy and not worry that much. The offense needs to be a bit more dynamic.
usf_statslogo.gif

21. USF
The buzz: With Pitt losing star running back LeSean McCoy to the NFL, the Bulls should go into the season as the preseason favorite in the Big East. Quarterback Matt Grothe must develop some consistency; it would help his cause if a feature back emerges.
utah_statslogo.gif

22. Utah
The buzz: The Utes lost two key defenders to the draft – end Paul Kruger and cornerback Sean Smith. Quarterback Brian Johnson and both coordinators are gone, too. Still, the defense will be a strength and the running game should be strong. But to expect another undefeated season is asking way too much.
notredame_statslogo.gif

23. Notre Dame
The buzz: The schedule isn't that taxing, the passing attack should be quite good and the defense has the makings of a solid unit. There's no doubt that Charlie Weis will be coaching for his job.
oregonstate_statslogo.gif

24. Oregon State
The buzz: The Beavers annually seem to be underrated. But with the return of the Rodgers brothers, the offense has two big-time playmakers. The defense should be fine.
northcarolina_statslogo.gif

25. North Carolina
The buzz: The Tar Heels made a big jump this past season in their second year under coach Butch Davis. Expect more improvement in 2009, when the Heels should contend for the ACC title.

Thanks Conan ( and keep up the Avatar)

I keep reinforcing the fact that Florida loss much more than they will admit. Murphy and Harvin represented 28 offensive touchdowns and Harvin rushed, received, and returned kicks. I know they have a pretty easy schedule by most standards but you don't just casually replace those guys. They were clutch players not just statistics. They will not be able to let down their guard either because that is a big notch in anyones belt. They are in the bullseye and one loss and they may be out.

I know Texas gets back their offense but on defense they lose (4) DL, (1) LB, (CB). Come on now that is severe.

USC has a better chance plugging their holes even though they lose Sanchez although it may be game by game improvement. Steady is as steady goes (sounds like a Forrest Gump).

I still see OU and USC in the Big Game.

Maybe so. But in my heart of hearts, I'd really like to see the Ducks put together another of Kelly's famous spread option offenses and run for another 450 yards per game next year, including beating USC, Cal and Florida's returning 22 deep D, and stay healthy.

I suppose USC getting in would work for me too. One of these days we'll have a real regional rivalry come to fruition, the West vs the Southeast. People on both coasts want it, but you will need to force it on the SEC in a bowl or NC game if you really want to see the best play the best... unfortunately. It's been a while since Auburn tried it and embarrassed themselves and their conference in '03/'04.

I just wish the SEC and Pac-10 would make some sort of annual bowl arrangement. At least that.

Rivals has Cal #13, will somebody tell me who their QB will be next year? Cause I really don't trust Tedford's ability in delegating QB talent. And yes I'm bitter because of the bowl game against Miami when Longshore played like a backup high school qb, even if Riley was as bad, worse, or better you put him in their in the second half. Thanks Tedford for costing for 4K, last team of a 5 teamer for 200$, and they were up 14-0, and then it all went to hell. Bottomline OU is better than Texas with more weapons, I think UF will lose 2 games, many don't realize that Percey Harvin was the offense much more than Tebow, and that will be a huge loss for them. A slip up from LSU or Ole Miss should be in order.

The QB will most likely be Riley but Brock Mansion has a shot.

Can you explain why they kept Longshore in? I was sitting here in Oklahoma thinking get the guy outa there. He stunk the place up. You also seem to be the only person who agrees with me that Florida is losing much more than they are willing to admit. One guy even said Harvin was only about 80% for the OU game and I am thinking he is still 50% better than his replacement will be. I think OU and OSU can beat Texas. If LSU gets up to speed I can see them beating Florida twice if it panned out. If Tebow tries to do too much he will hurt his team just like any QB who tries to do that.

get in line, there are 20 other conferences already asking for a bowl tie in

every major should play every major at least once somewhere in the middle or at least in a warm weather or domed stadium.

anything but that is out of line

If only anyone knew what goes on in Tedford's head. He's had great success with his QB's in the past but ever since Aaron Rogers they've had nothing but dogs. (Remember Ayoob or Booya? What a waste of flesh he turned out to be.) I always liked Riley better than Longshore anyway. Now it's Kevin Riley's chance to screw up in '09. Why do I think that will happen?
