TRAILERS
Alexander - Troy 2? is what I heard whispered around me; looks promising except is CFerrell ready to pull this kind of role off?
Dodgeball - stupid but hilarious, laughs all around
Cellular - WTF!?!? looks like a dud, snickers all around
I, Robot - keeps looking better, new trailer? b/c it cut down on the 1-liners that I remembered before
As for the show, this is honestly the 1st big summer bbuster of the year. Van Helsing was a D- & Troy left me very disapointed, even though it was a worthy attempt. Sorry, havent seen Shrek yet. Yes, its dumb fun and you MUST check your brain at the door but it is perfect for the summer months. I know, the storm(s) of the new Ice Age definetely would have killed all communications, yet the characters are always able to talk even from Scotland, just not in NYC. The SFX were incredible and the first half of the movie delivers everything the trailer promised. The destruction of LA and NY were simply amazing and 1st rate. Surprisingly, the 'cheese' factor ID4 & Godzilla had throughout was gladly missing from much of the movie. Very few 1-liners and no, DQuaid doesnt try to 1 up his brother Randy by flying a dustcropper into the eye of the storm. Still, there was 1 big howler when DQuaid recieves a phone call from his son in a flooded NYC. Even without my brain activated I still almost had to close my eyes during that scene. The film does slow down in the second half, but overall delivers the goods for a big summer popcorn film. They even skipped a few eye candy moments (the President dying from the storm off camera????). IMO its better than ID4 easily. Theatre parking lot & lobby were packed when the 1pm show let out, which isnt normal for this theater until evening. Troy & Van Helsing had nowhere near these crowds on opening afternoon.
OVERALL
as a film 6.5/10
