I lost 2 shrek bets so I guess I'll count that as 2 losses, as I've done before...
10-14 -5.25 units

anyways, DAT:
over 62 million -140 4.2 units

took em long enough to post the lines, and now I'm stuck with -140. I don't know, I really like the trailer for this movie and I think it's gonna surprise a lot of people with how much it makes this weekend.

adding Raising Helen 10-14 million 2 units. I was tempted to take the under 10 +500 but it's #3 on moviefone so it should do o.k. I guess, and I think the trailer looks like crap so I don't think it will pass 14 million, Kate Hudson or not... "we got a model down!" GAY. No one ever laughs at the trailer. I guess it should do 12-13 million.

I'm afraid of those brackets..... it's buzz score isn't that high, but could it go over 75 million? probably not I guess.... good luck

11:59 Regal Cascade

Theater's largest seater, about 70% full.

The acting bothered me at times, but, I loved some of the humorous dialogue (one-liners), and the movie went by fast. I only looked at my watch once, after a key plot point happened, just out of curiousity, and was shocked to learn that it was after 2:10.

Some people even clapped at the end.

Grade: B+ to A-"

where's the Regal Cascade? Vancouver, WA. Not bad for a noon showing in Washington.

Columbus, GA 1:00 p.m. show 80%+ full in 330 ppl house
TOMOR on 4 screens in 15plex, Shrek 2 isnt playing at same theatre

SNACKS
medium coke & popcorn (what else for this flick)

TRAILERS
Alexander - Troy 2? is what I heard whispered around me; looks promising except is CFerrell ready to pull this kind of role off?
Dodgeball - stupid but hilarious, laughs all around
Cellular - WTF!?!? looks like a dud, snickers all around
I, Robot - keeps looking better, new trailer? b/c it cut down on the 1-liners that I remembered before

As for the show, this is honestly the 1st big summer bbuster of the year. Van Helsing was a D- & Troy left me very disapointed, even though it was a worthy attempt. Sorry, havent seen Shrek yet. Yes, its dumb fun and you MUST check your brain at the door but it is perfect for the summer months. I know, the storm(s) of the new Ice Age definetely would have killed all communications, yet the characters are always able to talk even from Scotland, just not in NYC. The SFX were incredible and the first half of the movie delivers everything the trailer promised. The destruction of LA and NY were simply amazing and 1st rate. Surprisingly, the 'cheese' factor ID4 & Godzilla had throughout was gladly missing from much of the movie. Very few 1-liners and no, DQuaid doesnt try to 1 up his brother Randy by flying a dustcropper into the eye of the storm. Still, there was 1 big howler when DQuaid recieves a phone call from his son in a flooded NYC. Even without my brain activated I still almost had to close my eyes during that scene. The film does slow down in the second half, but overall delivers the goods for a big summer popcorn film. They even skipped a few eye candy moments (the President dying from the storm off camera????). IMO its better than ID4 easily. Theatre parking lot & lobby were packed when the 1pm show let out, which isnt normal for this theater until evening. Troy & Van Helsing had nowhere near these crowds on opening afternoon.

OVERALL
as a film 6.5/10
as summer entertainment 9/10

"Just saw TOMOR in Miami. 2 p.m. show. Was only about 1/2 full. The crowd was mostly 20-30 y.o. males. I thought the movie was good. I didn't notice a lack of plot as has been mentioned. I really enjoyed it and at the end the audience clapped and cheered. I was a little late so I didn't see the trailers. I am going to stick by my prediction the movie will pull in around 75 for the weekend. My only complaint is that the mustard on my hot dog was runny.

2:00 PM Friday

Sold out, I coun't believe the line. This was a Friday early afternoon movie. I forgot that the kids had off today. I couldn't even get my usual nacho's & soda.

But, the audience I feel really liked the movie. There was a lot of laughing going on. & even people talking back to the screen when the stupid VIce President couldn't see his nose before his face. I won't spoil it for anyone. But, the effects were good. There was some corny stuff as usual when you have an action movie trying to show depth. But there wasn't too much of that. This will be a great summer popcorn movie.

Trailers: Steven King's Salems Lot: TNT TV movie in June. Looks good. I love steven king.
I, ROBOT: Great reaction from the crowd. They seemed to love it.
RIDDICK: Someone yelled out vin can't act & it looks stupid. The audinence craked up on that.

I had a great afternoon. But, I am starving now.

"Just checked the theatres around me in Manhattan. I haven't seen one sell out for Shrek 2 today, and the majority of DAT's are sold out. I'm sensing an upset, if not for the entire weekend, at least for today.

looking good so far.

"i saw The Day After Tomorrow today at 3:30pm in a 414 seater in a theater that isn't the most popular in Miami...but it can get pretty busy.

It was about 75% full which is pretty damned good. I saw Van Helsing there on the friday it came out in a 230 seater and it was about 35% full.

Trailers:

-White Chicks
-Dodgeball
-I Robot (new trailer...looks better)
-The Chronicles of Riddick
-Collateral

Crowd reaction was decent enough. There was some chuckling at some of the jokes, and i could feel some people behind me stomping in suspense in one scene. The last shot is nothing that asks for applause and it got none. I went with 9 other friends and i liked it the least, but didn't hate it. 6 of them thought it was pretty good but not great, and 3 of them thought it was a lot of fun and great even though unintentionally funny.

1036253673.gif
It could go over 75 million for the 4 days, dawg, but you might still have a chance.

I just read that the studio thought that TDAT was going to make around 50 million this weekend, hence the low line.... how the hell were they off by 40 million+?

It always does a little less... I think you're going to win this one, Oren.

I hope so. I need it too.
