Per CBA rules, Kyrie Irving couldn't be traded after he signed his deal. He won't be eligible to be traded until the next offseason.

I also said I'd try to play the long game by keeping Wiggins and then hope to sign Love (or Gasol) after the season but it is tough to show that level of patience in pro sports when expectations are high.

i agree, they could have easily mold wiggins to what they need, as opposed to irving being used to play on a loser team just filling stats. Eventually they will figure out how to play together.

I always thought they should've kept Wiggins (and his rookie contract) and waited a year to acquire Kevin Love when he became a free agent (or another star forward).

Guess the Cavs felt like they didn't want to "waste" any year they have LeBron.

But it seems like with a little patience, they could have had LeBron, Irving, Wiggins, and Love plus the guys they included in the trade to get Love. Granted they probably would've had to trade some of those same guys for salary cap purposes but still.

I agree. I wish they would've found a way to keep Wiggins, especially since Kevin Love told them he was gone after this season. From the outside looing in, it seemed like LeBron (or his agent) was hell-bent n keeping certain players. Tristan Thompson particularly, since he and LeBron have the same agent. They definitely kinda mortgaged their future with this trade.
