The Pirates have actually had some sucess against the Cubs this season, winning almost half, 7 of 15, of the teams meetins this season. Recently, they just split a series with the Cubs just last weekend at PNC Park. Obviously, there is less than a 50 percent chance that the Pirates will come out on top today, but at a price of damn near 3 to 1, the Pirates have too much value to pass up on here. Moss, the main component in the trade that sent SP Sidney Ponson from the Orioles to the Giants earlier this year, is a very talented pitcher. When he is on, he has the ability to shut a team down, and could certainly do that today against the Yankees. Pettitte is 5-0 against the Orioles this year, and I think it might just be too much to ask somebody to go 6-0 against a decent Orioles team in one year. Yankees skipper Joe Torre indicated that some of his younger players, including Fernando Sequignol, Drew Henson, and Erick Almonte will get some playing time today. Moss has nice value getting 1.5 runs +110 in a game the opposition really has no incentive to win.
When betting major dogs like this, one could never make the statement, "I feel very strongly about these plays", as the odds of winning either of these plays is obviously less than 50 percent in each case. However, I am very comfortable with saying that I do feel VERY strongly about the VALUE that is contained in these plays this afternoon, especially with the Orioles.
