I hear this constant harangue that Bush and Cheney are in cahoots with big oil and are the cause of of $4 a gallon gasoline.
In 1993, When Clinton took office the price for a gallon of gasoline was about $1.07
4 years later it was $1.28 per gallon
Later in 1997 when the Republicans took control of Congress it was about $1.19 a gallon - it actually went down.
In 2001 When Bush took office, a gallon of gasoline cost about $1.44
4 years later, in 2005, it went up to about $1.83 per gallon
The Democrats took control of Congress in late 2006, the price for a gallon of gas was about $2.24 per gallon.
It now stands at $4.11 per gallon.
During the Clinton years, the cost of gas grew about 26%, from $1.07 to 1.44
During the first 6 years of the Bush administration, gas grew about 36% from $1.44 per gallon to $2.24
During the 18 months the Democrats have been in charge of the Congress, gas has gone from $2.24 per gallon to $4.00 per gallon - a growth rate of 46%.
Over the past 18 months, the energy crisis has grown horns and created havoc throughout the nation while the Democrats did absolutely nothing but play politics.
Last winter, the cost of heating oil skyrocketed - elderly and poor people were freezing while the Democrats blamed Bush for everything from the war to causing hurricaines.
And still, the Democrats did nothing.
All through the end of winter and into spring and then into the summer months, the cost of fuel continued to rise - and the Democrats continued to blame Bush for eveything bad that happened while the Democrat lead congress did...... you guessed it - they did NOTHING.
Here we are, at the end of the summer - the cost per gallon of gasoline seems has stabilized for the moment - possibly because the Democrat congress has gone home for August - meanwhile the poor and elderly face another winter where the cost of heating oil is expected to be about $4.70 per gallon - and the Democrats haven't done a damned thing.
Meanwhile, Alaskan oil is shipped to Japan because west coast refineries are at capacity and growth is limited by congressional fiat. The same situation stands with the gulf refineries.
The congress won't allow drilling anywhere and they won't allow new refineries to be built, or nuclear plants with new technology and they've built roadblocks against the development of other alternate sources of energy.
The Democrats continue to blame Bush for the price of gas - but I think they are the cause.
