Hi Doc how are you? I don't blame you at those rates.

Doing well. Thanks for asking.

I heard these health insurance experts on NPR about a month ago.

I can't vouch for anything, but according to them

http://www.ahirc.org/

is an excellent place to start. I would start there and see if you can find anything.

Doesn't sound like you have any "pre-existing" conditions. I do and had to take my former employer up on COBRA. I'm not married, so I'm just covering myself. With vision and dental and Independent BCBS coverage comes out to $380 and change.

I can second the Aetna coverage if no pre-existing conditions. Only problem is that they only write in a handful of states. VERY good coverage though.

I have never looked into one of these , pretty complicated.

I just called the one above...the rates are around 100-140 a month and would cover anything major over $2,500 up to 2 million

I just don't want to be wiped out by something serious.

A plan like this is what I would prefer.

Dante not sure what you mean by $500 a month, how would average people who work for themselves be able to afford that?

exactly man its UNAFFORDABLE....a policy like you would get from an employer where you pay only 10% or a small co pay will be 500-700 a MONTH to pay on your own..thats just how it is my man if you want to just cover big illnesses then that 140 seems like a good idea but many small things could happen in a year that would fall under the 2500 and you would have to fork it over

thanks

Jman-

I am paying about $1200 a month for my wife and I through Aetna in a self-employed plan. Its pretty much full coverage and you can pick most of your doctors. Its alot but I need it for my wife currently.
sounds about right....I checked prices a few months ago....anywhere from 500-900$ a month for me and family for full coverage

i have had golden rule for years, paying about 100 a month for it right now, happy with them

I thought it sounded pretty good, it's just not easy to know exactly what you're getting into until you need it I guess.

They told me if I did use it , I would get about 45% off of any regular visits or minor health care bills...does that sound about right?
