No Robo umps…

Overview

Umpire Auditor] Just some visual representation of the ...

No, MLB will not use robot umpires in the 2025 World Series. However, starting in the 2026 season, the Automated Ball/Strike (ABS) challenge system will be used for all regular season and postseason games, including the World Series. This system will be a challenge system, meaning human umpires will still call balls and strikes, but teams can challenge two calls per game.

Los Angeles Angels reportedly hiring former catcher Kurt Suzuki as manager after Albert Pujols talks fall through.

The Los Angeles Angels are hiring Kurt Suzuki as their next manager, according to multiple reports, ending a search that included former Angels slugger and St. Louis Cardinals icon Albert Pujols.
The 42-year-old Suzuki finished his 16-year career in the majors as the Angels' backup catcher from 2021-22, and he spent the past three seasons as a special assistant to Angels general manager Perry Minasian.

Blue Jays star shortstop Bo Bichette says he'll return to team for World Series: 'I'll be ready'

After a hard-fought series against the Seattle Mariners, the Toronto Blue Jays are going to the World Series. It was a tough battle, one that took seven games before a winner was crowned. In the end, the clutch Blue Jays came away with the victory. Their reward: taking on the powerhouse Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series.
But the Blue Jays have an ace up their sleeve for that matchup. After missing the entire postseason so far, injured shortstop Bo Bichette said he will return to the team for the World Series, according to the ESPN.

Who is considered the worst umpire in major league baseball?

While Angel Hernandez was widely considered the worst umpire before his 2024 retirement, the title is now often debated, with C.B. Bucknor frequently mentioned as a top contender due to his frequent poor calls. Other umpires like Doug Eddings and Laz Diaz are also mentioned in discussions about the worst umpires currently in MLB

With only 2 challenges per game on a ball or strike

There is no set number of times a strike is called a ball or a ball is called a strike in a game
; these are subjective calls made by the umpire that vary by game and depend on many factors. However, in a 2015 sample of MLB games, there were approximately 240,981 called balls and 110,497 called strikes in total. Research has shown that called balls can be twice as likely to be called a strike in a two-strike count compared to other counts.

Factors influencing calls
  • The umpire's judgment: The umpire's personal judgment plays a role, and a pitch can be called a strike or a ball depending on whether it's in the strike zone and whether the batter swings.
  • The count: Some research suggests that umpires may be more inclined to call a ball a strike when a batter is at a two-strike count.
  • Batter's stance: A batter's stance can affect the umpire's judgment, as the strike zone is defined relative to a batter in their stance.
  • The specific game: The number of called balls and strikes can vary significantly from game to game, depending on the performance of the pitcher and batter, as well as the umpire's judgment.

Research on called balls and strikes
  • A 2015 study of MLB games: Found that called balls were significantly more frequent than called strikes.
  • A 2021 study: Found that umpires were twice as likely to call a ball a strike when the batter was at a two-strike count.
  • A 2025 study: Found that in some games, umpires called every strike a ball.

Key takeaway
  • Called balls are more frequent than called strikes in baseball games.
  • The number of called balls and strikes can vary significantly from game to game.
  • Research suggests that the count and the umpire's judgment can influence the number of called balls and strikes.
