Kevin Durant agrees to 2-year, $90 million extension with Houston Rockets.

Kevin Durant was part of history in July when he was the crown jewel of an NBA-record seven-team deal that delivered him from the Phoenix Suns to the Houston Rockets.
Now the 2013-14 NBA MVP has agreed to a two-year, $90 million extension with the Rockets, according to ESPN's Shams Charania, turning a potential one-year stay into an opportunity to ride off into the sunset. The deal also contains a player option for the 2027-28 NBA season. The Rockets announced the extension Sunday but did not provide details on the deal.
Durant turns 37 in September. He has played 17 seasons in the league, made 15 All-Star teams and earned NBA Finals MVP on both Golden State squads he won championships with.
Durant was on an expiring contract worth $54.7 million for the 2025-26 season. He was eligible to sign a two-year deal worth $122 million when he was traded. Had he waited until six months after that deal, he could have made an additional two million. Ultimately, that didn't matter.

76ers rookie VJ Edgecombe breaks LeBron James' record, finishes with 34 points for most in an NBA debut in 51 years.

VJ Edgecombe didn’t waste any time in his NBA debut.
Edgecombe made history in the Philadelphia 76ers’ 117-116 win over the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night. The former Baylor star dropped 14 points in the first 12 minutes of that season-opening matchup at TD Garden, breaking a record that LeBron James set more than two decades ago in his debut.
Edgecombe scored the most points in the first quarter of an NBA debut in league history. James had 12 points in the opening period of his debut with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003.
Edgecombe didn't stop there. He finished the night with 34 points and seven rebounds while shooting 13 of 26 from the field and 5 of 13 from deep. His 34 points were the most scored in an NBA debut since 1974 and the third-most all time. Wilt Chamberlain holds that record with 43 in his debut in 1959. Edgecombe is the only player this century to drop at least 30.
It took Edgecombe a few minutes to get going, which makes his feat that much more impressive. The 20-year-old made a single free throw in the first few minutes of the game and didn’t hit his first field goal until right around the midway point of the period, when he threw down a dunk.
That seemed to spark something in him. He scored the team’s next eight points, hitting a pair of 3-pointers and making another dunk, to get to double digits not even two minutes after his first field goal. He then hit a huge 3-pointer late in the quarter to tie the score and break James’ record.
By the end of the quarter, Edgecombe had gone 5 of 9 from the field with three 3-pointers.
Edgecombe averaged 15 points and 5.6 rebounds per game last season while shooting 34% from behind the arc at Baylor. He earned All-Big 12 honors in his one season with the Bears while leading them to a 24-11 record and the second round of the NCAA tournament. The 76ers then selected him with the No. 3 overall pick in the NBA Draft earlier this summer.
Tyrese Maxey led the 76ers with 40 points, including seven 3-pointers. Both Jaylen Brown and Derrick White scored 25 points for the Celtics in the loss, and Neemias Queta finished with 17 points and eight rebounds.
Though Edgecombe has a long way to live up to the Hall of Fame-caliber career that James is still in the midst of, he's already surpassed one of James' milestones. That's a strong start.
