I am not sure how many of you are aware of The Rx.com's relationship that is has with local here in Costa Rica Charity Open Arms Costa Rica. Briefly we have been working with them to do what we can for The Children in Crisis here in Costa Rica. The Rx through it's posters has been able to help OACR somewhat since they became established late last year.
Last night their Director Ivan phoned me at home and asked if I would be able to help assist OACR in resolving a heartbreaking situation involving an unfortunate four year old Costa Rican little girl whose name is Rachel.
Rachel being a very sick child needed to travel from San Jose, Costa Rica to Caracas, Venezuela to see a specialist there and to undergo treatment for a brain malformation, which causes blindness, seizures and, unfortunately causes Rachel to require all of her meals to be fed through a tube into her stomach.
The very generous Women's Light Middleweight Champion of The World, Costa Rican Female Boxer Hannah Gabriel sponsored Rachel's trip to Caracas with her extremely poor single mother and grandmother who have for four years been scraping by trying to get little Rachel the treatment she needed and caring for her constantly.
When Rachel was born she was only given a 5% chance to live at all but she fought for four years suffering frequent and horrible seizures due to her condition. Hanna financed this trip to Caracas in the hope of improving the unfortunate child's quality of life.
On Monday, July 19th. Rachel, her mother and grandmother left for Caracas, Venezuela, so the one specialist in the region could perform a second brain surgery on Rachel in order to improve the quality of her life and put an end to the painful and frequent convulvisions and siezures.
The trip was financed at no small sacrifice by the wonderful and child loving Champion Boxer Hanna Gabriel a Costa Rican National who I have had the honor of meeting and spending a little time with.
Hanna's love for Children is amazing as I met her at an orphanage in April when TheRx thanks to you posters and BetPhoenix.com donated nearly $1300 to an all girls orphans refuge run by Nuns. Hannah was there to present the check and spent hours with the young girls entertaining them as they surrounded her at The Refuge. I have pictures of the event that should be ready to post on The Rx soon.
However, very sadly, little Rachel did not survive the surgery and passed away at the age of four on the operating table. As I write this her remains are still in Venezuela waiting to return to her native land for internment by her small impoverished family who have no money to pay for the expensive procedure of transporting a deceased person by commercial airlines from one country to another, plus a proper burial.
Open Arms Costa Rica has stepped in and is raising the funds required to bring Rachel home and see that she has a proper Christian burial. All of this cost money that the family has none of sadly. That is where I am appealing to you our posters for help.
I am here to ask you, our posting body, to help by going to The Open Arms Costa Rica website and clicking on DONATIONS where you will see a PayPal Account email that belongs to OACR and give anything you can to help bring this beautiful but unfortunate child home to her family..
Some donations have already been made, including one by a Rxer who I will respect his confidentiality and not name, another was pledged by a longtime Rxer who heard the story and emailed me Monday night.
However the amount collected is still woefully short of what Rachel's family, her mother and grandmother require to be able to afford to bring their baby home and afford a decent Christian burial at their local church cemetery here in Costa Rica.
I do not ask this lightly and if I could, I would pay for it all myself as Hanna paid for the family's trip down to Caracas.
Please look into your hearts and help if you can, there is no minimum other than the PayPal imposed minimum that you can send.
Open Arms Costa Rica also has a Facebook Page for anyone interested..
This charity is only beginning to grow but is already doing some wonderful things for Children in Crisis here in Costa Rica..The local Rxers here in Costa Rica have been incredibly generous during the last 7 or 8 months, namelessly and unselfishly contributing their own money and professional services at no charge to help launch and support this worthy cause. You know who you are and I cannot say how much I respect and appreciate your incredible generousity.
In behalf of the family of little Rachel I thank you for taking the time to read this post and know in my heart The Rx will come through to help resolve this very sad situation.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, wilheim..
