Man, talk about being snakebit. Senior Texas QB David Ash is sidelined again with a broken foot and will have surgery next week. Ash missed most of last season with a concussion and now will miss some important practice sessions with a new coaching staff. I feel sorry for the kid and the bad luck he has had. Ash may have a difficult time holding on to the starting job with Stoops and several young guns getting practice reps.

The Longhorns finished 79th nationally in passing last year and improvement is needed during Strong's first season.

The foot may be the least of his worries. If he takes one more big hit to the head he may be needing assisted living.

Yeah GS, the concussion last season must have been pretty serious. I believe it happened in the second or third game and
he had to sit out the rest of the season.

If I'm Mom and Pop...I'm making sure some really good doctors are clearing him to play.

Well, at least they have Swoopes. Uh nevermind, they moved him to TE. That Mack, he sure knew how to evaluate QB talent...Ha!

do what now? Swoopes is still a QB. Or did I not get a joke here....

this is obviously bad for Texas but frankly Swoopes needs the reps as mentioned above, Ash's head is more delicate than a newborn's right now.
unless a freshman comes in and kills it or the OC can draw up a strong game plan letting Swoops run a lot, Ash will be the starter. He also got a medical redshirt so he's only a Junior again....

Charlie has his work cut out for him

I've heard them talk of moving Swoopes to TE. Looks like they won't be revisiting that idea. Ash was out most of last year, and now probably the summer. What kind of shape will he be in come August? Who have they got left after Swoopes? Holtz (walk-on), Heard?

It's Swoopes, Swoopes and Swoopes right now. There is no other legit QB for Spring. Heard arrives in the summer but I dont see how he can be ready by August and I have to assume they want to RS him if Swoopes can be a starter.

Strong has to assume someone other than Ash will play. He's just too breakable to last the full season. Maybe Heard will be a fast learner and can play, but unless Swoopes is terrible for this system, that they RS Heard and have him learn a year.

Sure hope Texas OL learn to run block this year.....

sdf I think you are right. Can't see Ash making it through the full season. No matter who it will be it will not be what Strong is used to Bridgewater).
