How about some Texas/OU discussion. Word from Dallas is that the Horns will not be able to hang with the mighty Sooners. It seem like the dog usually jumps up in this game. Six seems like a pretty good number here. OU hasn't been tested since Alabama. I thought UCLA could hang with them but didn't. Fresno St. covered, barely.
Any thoughts or opinions????

I'm trying to decide if I am going to play this one or not and for how much as well. The dog has won in the past-but that dog has been OU. It seems that the small state schools(OU and ARK) really get up for TX. TX doesn't get up for these games as much. Over half of OU's players are from TX and they want to show their peers and family that they made the right choice. Texas doesn't have this extra umph in their motivation. OU wants to bury TX every time they play and are always more motivated in this matchup.
Coaching is the big reason why OU has won of late. Stoops runs circles around Mack Brown. This isn't even close. Every year Stoops outcoaches Brown in this matchup. If I play this it will be OU in some form. Whether it's laying the 6, teased, or action points.

take it from someone who lives in texas....this is "the" game for both texas and oklahoma...both will be fired up and motivated...i agree with the coaching mismatch and i also think texas is soft (as always)...i repeat, texas would like nothing more than to beat the hell out of OU...it is the biggest game of the season for both...motivation is a non-factor

I agree with scalpelman.

If Bob Stoops only gets one victory a year it better be against the 'Horns.

Sorry 'Pokes

As much as I hate to admit it, my heart is pulling for my Horns, but my wallet will be on the Okies. This game will, I believe, play out the way the past two have with Texas trying to establish a running game(which they wont), then when that fails, start passing on every down. As Darrell Royal said, "There's 3 things that can happen when you pass and two of 'em are bad." If you cannot run the ball you lose this game...period. Texas' O-line is big no doubt, but its not a good kind of big. They're fat big and excluding the obvious cupcakes Rice and Tulane, Texas has not had a dominating performance from its line. What has jumped out at me thus far this year is the fact that the O-line simply does not sustain a block long enough for a play to develop. Its that simple. So, if thats the case this Saturday, I see alot of 3 and outs on offense and/or a quarterback put in a position of having to pull plays out of his ass against a great defense. Then you have a very good Texas defense being worn down in the second half. OU I believe wins 34-23.

I think the Texas first half is a good play. All year the Horns have been a good 1st half team, and I dont see it changing for this game. If it is OK-3 or above take the horns, if the 1st half is OK -2.5 or lower then I would stay away. Just my opnion.

Just a point to consider. Oklahoma has had problems with good running quarterback ex. Brad Smith and Reggie McNeil last year, Vincent Young can do similar things and better if his ankle is at least 90%. Oklahoma also has a tendency to get beat deep down field, ex: OK State last year and A&M last year, I think they can be beat deep and Texas definitely has some over the top playmakers, if Vincent can buy some time in the pocket with his legs watch out. Texas Recievers with a day. With all of that being said I would still probably bet OK. Bobbie Stoops is a gamer and always has his team well prepared, where as the Texas coaching staff seems to be a bit behind. Should be a great game and if you have never been to the Cotton Bowl to experience this it is quite the spectacle. Biggest and best rivalry in college football today IMO.

I hate ou and I'd love nothing in this world more than to see them lose to UT and OSU this year. Unfortunately, the only thing that will keep the goons from another NC appearance is my Cowboys! OU beats up on UT and people in Austin will start to really put the pressure on ol mr. brown.

No way I would touch OU minus anything in this game. Texas wins this one straight up. The setup is beautiful and a little subtle. There is no obvious sandwich or letdown or look ahead here but the setup is there. OU has been living large lately. Not only in the last few weeks ( 50+ pts. each time ) but also in the last few games between these two. OU flat, no. OU overconfident, yes. Texas in contrast was humbled against Arkansas and had to EARN a hard fought, close victory against Kansas St. last week. So there is some confidence and a little momentum but not that fatal overdose. Next is the popular story line of the game - Stoops owns Brown, Brown no chance against Stoops etc, etc, etc... - I that Stoops is the better coach, no doubt about it. But this Saturday I think you'll see Brown somehow get the better of Stoops. My feeling is that deep down ( not what they'll tell the media ) OU really doesn't see themselves losing this game, and that will be a big part of their undoing here. My money is on Texas to win straight up.
OU backers, you have been warned.

Oklahoma hasn't played anyone yet with an offense. Fresno is terrible, UCLA is just as bad (sans 2nd half last week), north texas, etc. With Texas coming off the win and putting in the running QB Young (will play) I like taking those points.

Anyone who says Texas "doesn't get motivated" for Oklahoma is simply ignorant. It is ALWAYS the biggest game of the year for UT... end of story. The Red River Shootout is an insane rivalvy of biblical proportions, it just doesn't get any bigger than this. They've met in Dallas every October since 1929.

Roy Williams just stated, "we're playing for the National Championship - if we lose we are out."

Motivation could simply not be any higher.

Whether they can pull it off is another conversation.

Check my post from last year concerning TEX/OU game and the year before and so on.. This game is not about talent but coaching and attitude. Last year HC Stoops came out and said, OU WILL WIN..And so they did. He will make sure that his players are in the best position to SUCCEED. This is something that UT fans can't say about their coaching staff. They don't put their players in the best position to win. Stoops on the other hand has of late in this series. As for pressure, it is already on in Austin, it has been since the loss to Arkansas as a huge favorite. They were extremely fortunate to get past KSU last week and KSU is not as talented as some of their teams from the recent past. Look for OU to roll (as usual). Until there is an attitude change on the defensive side of the football in Austin, this team will not play well against equally or better coached teams.

As for practices, the ones in Austin have been okay, not sharp although todays practice was screened. Not sure if new wrinkles were put in or what? Snaps were not evenly distributed between Mock and Young previously. Hoping to get feedback from Norman, will pass this on
as I get it.

...which is one reason Texas wins this game. All the talk is about how out-coached Mack Brown is in this game and how Mack Brown can't win the big games and Brown this and Stoops that and bla bla bla. It's true, yes. But I also remember March of 2000 when you could find almost NO ONE who thought tech stocks were a bad investment. The ratio is just too lopsided and will have reached its peak just before kick off. Texas will win and Brown will give all the credit to the players and his assistant coaches and rave about what a great team OU is.

OU is better. OU has taken care of UT on a consistent basis, and hey, Chris Simms even said it, "our coach is scared of yours" or something like that. Now, I don't know if that is true or not, and it certainly isn't approaching WATERBOY proportions, but it is evident that there is something to it.

I almost feel sorry for those poor damn sooners though. They'll be on top of the world when my cowboys come rolling into town with their guns a blazin'!!!! (hope you got 'em plus 16 before the season started...I didn't

Thanks for all the advice guys. All things considered, I believe OU is the play, but a small one. I have a feeling special teams make the difference here. Also its a tough spot for a Freshman QB. Could be some costly turnovers. Luck to all. Boomer Sooner!!

Mizzou,

Sure hope you and others laid the number and took OU. Not even close.

Is there any worse motivator of talent than Mack Brown? T-sips here in Dallas are jumping off bridges or checking out of the hotels and headed back to Austin. In the words of the Barry Switzer, "OU hung half a hundred on them easy". I wonder if UT can beat OkSt (in Stillwater), Nebraska, Missouri or TxTech this year? Is it unheard of, a 5 loss year in Austin?

Peace!!

I was in Downtown Dallas last night saying "OU sucks, but I'm betting on them." You don't have to like them to bet on them. Thanks for making me money for the fourth year in a row in this matchup OU.
