Florida Atlantic head coach Howard Schnellenberger made comments earlier this month about Texas. In particular, he said, "Texas always has a very polished team that has great talent, but they aren’t tough, they aren’t a physically tough team."

Schnellenberger has been part of four collegiate national championships. His 1983 Miami Hurricanes won the school's first title, defeating Nebraska in the 50th Orange Bowl. He was offensive coordinator for Paul "Bear" Bryant at Alabama when the Crimson Tide won championships in 1961, 1964 and 1965.

He has had an impressive career, but he must be getting senile at his old age. Why would a coach, of FLORIDA ATLANTIC, call out Texas just before going in to Austin???

My friend lives next to a kid who is a linebacker on the Texas squad. When asked about Schnellenberger's comment, the Longhorn said the team is out for blood! He said they are really fired up and pissed off, and ready to beat the snot out of Flor. Atl.

Texas is notorious for playing a weak team for the first game of the season, and not beating them into the ground. Usually, Texas won't cover a big spread because they won't run up the score. However, I have a feeling Texas will not give Florida Atlantic any mercy today.

I would usually just lay off of Texas for the first game, but since Schnellenberger's comment has enraged Texas, I think laying 23.5 points may not be a bad idea.

Any thoughts???

Flor Atl can still score. Already took teh over and plan to take a long look at the Texas team total becuase they should pile on the points even when it is late.

I thought about the overs too...anybody know about Flor. Atl. quarterback, I think his name is Rusty Smith??

Is he a throwing qb or running qb...if throwing, then they may put up some points. Texas D secondary is suspect. However, if he's a running qb, I don't think he'll go far against Texas D.

FAU is no slouch. I don't see Tex. being up 24 in the 4Q. Not against a team who are division champs and return a lot of players on offense and defense.

I'm going with Texas and the overs...my prediction:

Texas 56

Smith can move the ball. He can run, throw. He can make plays. They have a decent wr group and o-line. I would expect at least 20 points.

My only concern is that Texas may be pissed. I don't see their defense shutting out FAU but they may take out sme frustation on them.

FAU should put up anywhere from 14-31 points. It's a tough call. Texas on the other hand will definitely put up 42+ points and may really poor it on late which would be key.
