Tesla will start taking reservations for the vehicle on March 31. Only $1,000 down to reserve one.

The catch is I don't think production will even start until sometime into 2017. Then deliveries will begin in California and move east as production continues.

So im not sure what the actual timeframe would be? 2018???

It does look like a pretty sharp vehicle and I would think a lot of the wrinkles have been ironed out from the previous models. Oh yeah, and a basic model is only expected to be around $35,000. A little tempting.

Just read a little about it, and according to what I read the effective price would be $7500 lower due to incentives for purchase of electric vehicles. The problem still remains charging stations. Projected range on the car is 257 miles on a single charge, which is fine for driving around town but means you'll need to be able to charge it away from home for a trip of any significant length. A friend who owns a Model S tells me that even in CA and NV charging stations are few and far between. I'm in the midwest and of course I'm not really looking for them, but I don't ever recall seeing one in this area.

I see plenty of them in Nevada. Lots of the Casinos have them, and I've even seen them at Chevron's in the middle of no where.

I thought about it...but hasn't Tesla always been behind schedule?
I was just in a Model S on Friday...and it's bad. There is not really an engine. A huge trunk in the back...and a smaller one in the front.

Unless you are a real EV enthusiast and really want to get your hands on it, I'd wait a few years. The other car companies are catching up to Tesla in this space and you will likely see better and cheaper models sooner than later. Especially as battery-tech continues to rapidly improve in efficiency and cost. Also, let the infrastructure build up with charging stations. It is just going to be much better to own a car like this in 2-3 years.

I think the delivery for the Model 3 is around early-mid 2017 but Tesla has had a lot of setbacks with timelines. Building a supply chain from scratch extremely difficult.

Just checked and delivery expected for late 2017.

I'd just wait, this isn't like an iPhone where the product is so superior to anything already out there. Subsequent models will be a lot better, especially in regards to the technology and autonomous capabilities.
