It must stop. I can't believe its gotten this out of hand. Every point, every serve. I end up hitting mute to watch it. You're telling me they can't have some rule against over-grunting. Its horrible...

I couldn't agree more. The grunting in women's tennis is completely ridiculous.

And, I would add, completely unnecessary. If there was a rule, they would just stop. I've played tennis and it is not necessary to grunt. Plenty of great players of the past didn't grunt like stuck hogs on every shot.

Of course this is a posting forum and people are going to make the obligatory connection to sexual grunting. Hearing Sharapova grunting and shrieking on the court is comparable to having sex with her. Of course. I get it. Ha ha.

(My usual posting forum has an emoticon of a guy rolling his eyes which I need right now).

Anyway, seriously, they need to just SHUT THE FVCK UP!

Jimmy Connors was the first that I can remember that grunted on every swing of the racket. Cannot watch tennis anymore because of it. It just annoys the hell out of me.

Seems like it started with karate where if you exhaled vigorously you would get more power. Tried it on the driving range a couple of times, well it is more a game of consistency not power.

i have never watched men's tennis they tell me federer is really good is he?

The best I've ever seen. He is unreal. Has every shot in the book...But an off day in Men's tennis and you will lose to the 100th best player. It isn't like the women's game where it drops off a cliff out of the Top 10...Which makes Federer's run even more special.
