I dont know if any 3-4 type of alignment will be able to stop the Big Uglies upfront from pounding the shit out of them LB's...Very tough on the LBs to have to have to face a lineman uncovered...Plus to me that type of defense creates to many natural holes...and when this happens, it sets up the play action very well as the LB's will be biting first to fill gaps....But hey I have been out of coaching for a while now so anything can happen...lol...JMO.
I agree...Big Ten and SEC football seem to be predicated around run first and smash mouth football, which starts up front first with the Big Uglies...Whereas other conferences like the Pac 10, WAC, MWC are more so pass happy first type of conf...which go more for skilled players instead of the Big Uglies....Look for coaches who develop their teams around the Line of Scrimmages and you'll be more than successful...Only thing is finding one that will tell you this...So I guess we need to study the O line and D lines more....The war is more likely won at the line of scrimmage....JMO.
Thats what I was saying...as a former LB myself, its not to easy to have to fend off a Big Ugly and then try to completely wrap up and take down a RB that weighs over 230 lbs...UNLV needs to change there defense and play at least a 4-3 or 4-4, something with more weight upfront to help out the LBs...This type of 3-4 Defense is not going to work against these Ground em and pound Em type of teams...MWC ok, but not SEC..no way.
