Vols might not score 7, UCLA has 6 starters back, also have best TE in the country. UCLA has good athletes.

I think this line will be bet down closer to game day. I'd wait on it. I'm waiting on it too. Think I'm right. BOL

Tennessee should have a great day running the ball. I think this spread could be met. ETTG and I have had some pretty good information shared in his preseason thread.

I think you are golden here Christ Paradise, from one Murfreesboro guy to another ;).

i was not serious about betting that. i mean sure id take it right now but its not a ,um, 2000 star play. about the line move however - i think being a monday night game the line usually goes up . the logical thinking of joe 6 pack whos down 300 for the weekend wanting a sure winner monday night taking the fav.

someone check MNF's historcial open and close lines?

i would think everyone is going to jump on the "home dog" as they try to remember Tenn going out West vs. Cal last yr.

I do believe Tenn wins here and I want under a TD

Ducks any insight on the Bruins for us SEC guys and where they will struggle with Tenn?

I have my ideas but rather hear it from someone who follows the conference.

This is how I was looking at the game

Tennessee-7 @ UCLA: I think concerns about the CAL-Tenn game last year in California need to be thrown out the window. First, UCLA starting the year will be nothing like Cal was beginning 2007. Vols will be much better prepared traveling out West for the second year in a row. Vols have one of the best OL in the country, a power running game, a talented WR corps with experience, and a 4th year QB who was highly regarded coming out of HS but stuck behind a 4yr starter. There is a change with the OC as well but Dave Clawson from D1AA Richmond knows what he is doing on offense. UCLA moves to the pro-style offense with Norm Chow calling plays and I think the Tennessee defense is better fit to play against these types of teams. Olson is a walking band-aid, if he gets hit once, he might be out for the year. UCLA leading RB Kahlil Bell is coming off reconstructive knee surgery, the OL must replace 4 starters, the top 2 WR are gone. More or less, there is not a lot of experienced depth on offense for UCLA. I am just looking for some "home-dog" money to bring this line to under a TD for me here but Tennessee should take care of business here.

OK 2 theories about the line moving. One thing for sure is that it's on a difficult number to move off of now. To me there just seems to be a lot of home dog money out there in the 2nd biggest market in the country. I know the local books are going to be jammed up on this one. I think a lot of UCLA money is going to be laid off someplace and that should push it down... but like I said 7 is a hard number to move off of in either direction.

UCLA should lose this one by at least 13 points and that would be IF their OL is worth a sh*t which it isn't. 38-20, 35-17... something in there provided UCLA has a pulse in the 4th quarter. Easy win and cover by the Vols.

Paradise,

What is your qb situation looking like this season. I really think Ainge was underrated as college QB. He was tremendously accurate, but I am curious about who is taking over?

crompton is a better leader than ainge and more gifted physicaly. runs better, stringer arm and a good transition for the vols moving into the 21st century offense.

ainge was a student, tecmo bowl qb if you would. 20 yrs ago he would have been a superstar in the nfl

cutcliffe was great for ainge - perfect matchup , clawson is better for crompton. i think this years team will be better overall. reminds me a lot of 92 alabama team though not as talented.

just depends how ready the offense is for the florida game. thats the only game id honestly pick UT to lose this year right now. georgia is overrated. period. probably will lose 2-3 but id take em even money in every game but the florida game.

i see a 2nd place finish in the east with a 10+ win season as worst case scenario. best case be a sec championship and a beating in a BCS bowl by some hungry team from a non sec school while fulmer is trying his ass off to go get some 5 stars at the last minute in january.

I'll be on UCLA and I expect them to win SU. They aren't a bad team, not sure why most think they are. They will have a great running game, their QB healthy again, a great TE as usual, some decent WR's and a very solid defense.

No reason why UCLA can't beat Tennessee at home.

ucla is in a real bad place this year. oline isn't going to be ready for this and that is all you need to know. I think a td is an easy cover. everything else you said is spot on. grab it now it goes higher.

ps. after olsen goes down you get kraft. i don't think he would start on any other team in the p10.

yeah id take that even money on the vols every year .

blindly.

for the next 20 years.

fulmer has had 7 or less reg season wins only twice in 15 years as head coach. once in 94 when they played one less game than they do now and peyton was a true freshman , and in 2005 - ill refer to that as the vanderbilt year

people always remember the september losses to florida and ignore the vols the rest of the year until teh bowl which they tend to lose . sandwhiched in between those 2 games are a lot of wins every year. fulmers a winner. consitently year in year out. the vols have won more division titles than any other team in the SEC

seriously , in that same 15 yrs span i wonder if any other program can say the same thing? only 2 yrs with 7 or less reg season wins...maybe michigan ? i dunno

KNOXVILLE — The coaches have talked about it. The fans have dreamt about it. And Eric Berry has longed for it.
On Monday, it happened.

Berry, Tennessee’s All-Everything sophomore safety, worked full speed at quarterback during UT’s early morning practice session and proved more than adept, according to coaches.

Berry’s work at quarterback came at a time when media were not permitted to be present, but UT coaches said Berry looked fluid and comfortable.

“(Berry) looks pretty good for the first time,” UT Coach Phillip Fulmer said. “It was great for the defense to see it. It’s something we’ll be able to pick and choose and use as we go along.”

The formation, nicknamed the Wild Berry by some, is another weapon for first-year UT offensive coordinator Dave Clawson. Berry isn’t battling Jonathan Crompton for the starting quarterback job. Instead, the wrinkle simply falls in line with Clawson’s theory of getting the ball to playmakers.

Berry, a freshman All-America last season at safety, played quarterback at Creekside High School in Fairburn, Ga., where he threw for more than 1,000 yards. He also rushed for more than 1,500 yards.

Sophomore receiver Gerald Jones lined up at quarterback a handful of times last season and proved productive. He did the same during Saturday’s scrimmage inside Neyland Stadium, and again during Monday’s practice.

“It’s a privilege, honestly,” Jones said. “I never thought I’d be back there. I’m not taking it for granted and doing my best to help the team.”
