Alabama Birmingham +1

This is a huge REVENGE spot for a UAB team that is already Bowl eligible. That is quite an accomplishment when you consider that the Blazers have never been to a postseason contest. The thing that UAB really wants this afternoon is to finally snap a FOUR game series' losing streak versus Southern Mississippi. This series' has produced very CLOSE games that have been decided by an average of just 4.5 points per game. Last year UAB barely lost at home against Southern Miss in a game that was nationally televised before the LARGEST crowd ever to view a Blazers' football game. If UAB finally gets over the hump this afternoon, they will finish #2 in the Conference USA race so they obviously have a ton of talent. It seems that UAB is catching their rivals at just the right time as Southern Miss QB Dustin Almond was knocked out of last week's contest due to a back injury. That is bad news because Almond has already missed a few games this campaign due to hamstring problems. Southern Miss head coach Jeff Bower has hinted this week that he may turn to REDSHIRT FRESHMAN Jeremy Young to start his first game at quarterback. It is very unusual to see the Southern Miss defense struggle like they have in recent weeks. After surrendering 42 points a week ago, the Golden Eagles defense has now given up an alarming 124 POINTS total in the past 3 outings combined. Thus, even though Southern Miss is playing today for Bowl eligibilty, it seems like this squad due to injuries and fatigue has run out of gas. From the database: UAB is 5-1 ATS SINCE 1992 after failing to cover 3 of their prior 4 contests. The Blazers are also 15-3 ATS as a conference underdog of LESS than 18 points!

GOOD LUCK

re: NW/UH, take the over. The side will be a close call. Hawaii plays their best with their backs to the wall in a "respect" game, but I can't play them here because their D is incredibly banged up.
