sammy,
singled ivan motley in the finale and yes i was alive going into the last leg. c'est la vie.
g- looking forward to the fed ex. thanks again.
here's my take from hollywood, before scratches....
r2: five schillings. sweet stepper "beat" me last time as i backed derreck and thought i had the money last time in the heater. well, 'stepper again gets the cozy rail draw, but i love that espinoza abandons him for motto. five schillings isn't very sound, but when he does make it to the races, he's an absolute tiger. the pace in here clearly favors sweet stepper, but i think 'schillings is simply the best horse and will run them all down in the lane. reserve the right to change my selection to 'stepper if that one floats above 5/2.
r3: a beautiful heart. the second timer for hoffmans drops to down after showing absolutely nothing in a very tough special weight race. he adds blinkers and victor espinoza, which for those who do not follow the socal circuit, is a HUGE upgrade from jose valdivia (particularly on the dirt, with young horses). mr. siphon will be the heavy favorite, but he's making a return from a long layoff and is dropping as well. lest we forget, a firster by tale of the cat, was once mentioned by mandella as one of his more promising 2 year olds. for him to be running for a tag first out, after taking a month off between april and may probably means something has gone awry with that one.
r4: valentine dancer. victory encounter won't win. now that that's out of the way, we just have oneexcessivenite to beat. ok, i get pval, a ratable horse that can finish on the turf? sounds like a play to me.
r6: sailinwithcaptain. hey, another ratable inexcess horse on the turf? ok, so this time, the field is a lot tougher, but really the only two that scare me are thundermann and sporting lad. thundermann is coming off the shelf, so i'm going to give him a race and sporting lad's last race wasn't as easy as it looked as patrick had to really get after him to get up. now, 'captain makes hise second start back and should really improve for baffert and flores. is 7/2 too much to ask?
r8: lily's lad. this horse has burned quite a bit of money the last few years and maybe the fact is, he just may not be good enough at this class level. however, i gave him a fair shot to turn the tables on sea to see in this spot. he's been freshened and should just gallop along on or near the lead for the first 1 1/8. i'm hoping he can lull them all to sleep and hang on for the win.
r9: salvaje memo. adds blinks from the outside. should handle these unless intuit and log on get away from him early. come on, gonzo, sit and pounce and end the week in style.
