They didn't win this race because of Phelps. The guy is by far the best swimmer in the world, but I'm pretty sure he's one of the weaker swimmers on the team for this race, and they actually made a point of saying he cost the team the gold 4 years ago.

USA had an amazing race and set a WR, but France gave it to them. They had it won easily, but the final swimmer swam too close to the line and let Lezak trail behind him allowing him to save some energy and pick up speed. They were commenting on it the entire time it was happening. USA did great, but France should have won. Too bad for them they didn't, so USA deserves the gold.

im not so sure on the final time. the 4th and 5th place teams with "swimmers a touch under top world class" also broke the old world record?
Its like a horse race where everybodies Beyer is 30 points higher than they have ever run...not everyone can bet that extra fast. The go back and correct for a track varient or a timing error.
