We may still be several weeks away from the start of the new NFL season, but our odds for the championship make interesting reading at this stage. New England are favourites to defend their title at 8/1, and open their campaign with a mouth watering clash against Indianapolis, who they beat up on in the AFC Championship game. With Peyton Manning still at the club, the Colts have plenty to look forward to in the coming season. Kansas City are further down our list at 14/1, but if the Chiefs can make further improvements to their defence they could go all the way under Dick Vermeil.

Dallas could be value at 25/1 with Bill Parcells entering his second year in charge, after turning a losing team into a play-off franchise without making too many changes. It wasn’t long ago that the Cincinnati Bengals were the laughing stock of the NFL, however, after almost making the post season, the Bengals are being taken seriously again, and it is a measure of their improvement that they can be backed at 28/1.

I don't know about Dallas Wil. Their win total is O/U 8.5! I don't think they can win the NFC East with 8 or 9 wins, let alone a SB.

the Dirty Bird from Atlanta is the best bet in the NFC at +12.00.They are the team to beat even if the BIG LOU(d) loves the Giants.Go LOU, GO Lou.

Everybody can have the Colts at any number.Beat the Colts by flushing Manning out of the pocket.

Dungy has been done for some time now.

Jacksonville at +5.00 for the division is not a bad value against the Colts and company.

Denver: they always seem to pose a threat, but, I just noticed that the under 9 1/2 season win total is being bet at Olympic a bit. Guess I can't blame 'em, but, that bet would make me nervous. I haven't been following them closely but the obvious change was the trade of Portis for Baily. Baily will be an instant upgrade, while they have had success in the past plugging in any running back they wanted, as they've got a great running system in place. I guess Hearst should do well there... All said, my gut feeling is maybe they make it to the playoffs again and get their asses handed to them by someone like the Colts or Raiders

"Raiders won't make the playoffs again" you mean EVER?

Obviously the Raiders made a ton of offseason changes, and addressed almost all of their weaknesses. Most people would grade their offseason as a B+ to A+. Now there are still a lot of question marks. For one, they've got a bunch of new players, new coaching staff, revamped offensive and deffensive schemes... How long is it going to take for this team to gel? Charles Woodson is a threat to hold-out at this time, and without him their backfield isn't that great. Rich Gannon is the starter as of now, and word out of camp is his shoulder has recovered and he's as strong as ever. I still have my doubts that he can be effective in Turner's offense, which requires accurate down-field throws, something Gannon does not excel at. But, he has been accurate with the long ball in the Pro Bowls with little to no pressure and allstar recievers to throw to, so if their new rookie offensive linemen can step up maybe he will find success again this year with less pressure. Tim Brown and Rice are ancient but they'll be making use of their fullbacks and tight ends so only one of those guys might be starting, meaning Rice, and he's still a decent receiver. Jerry Porter has a lot of potential at receiver. Tyrone Wheatley has shown in the past that he can be an effective power-runner. It's really up to Gannon, and if he doesn't play well early on there's going to be a quarterback controversy with Collins waiting in the wings, and that destraction can't help a team that is trying to find itself. The under 8 season wins isn't set at -180 for no reason, there aren't many great arguments that the Raiders will have a good season this year. But, the talent is there and it's possible they can turn around that horrendous 4-12 season. The coaching staff is a big improvement, as are their defensive and offensive lines, which can really make a difference.

In the NFC, I like the Falcons or the Vikes to win the league. Vick almost carried the entire team 2 years ago by himself. Now they are slowly putting some pieces around him. Not sold on the new coach though.

Vikings intrigue me. I think the offense is good enough to win the big games if Bennett is 100% or Onterrio Smith steps it up. Like how they keep getting better on D. They might be able to put it all together.

AFC is a lot tougher to call. No great value out there.
