Super Bowl betting set Nevada record at $81 MIL

LOS ANGELES, Feb 4 (Reuters) - U.S. football fans bet a record $81.2 million in Nevada on the Feb. 1 Super Bowl, and casinos won a hefty $12.4 million, state gambling regulators reported on Wednesday.

Betting on the championship game between the New England Patriots and the Carolina Panthers, won by the Patriots 32-to-29, jumped 13 percent from $71.7 million a year ago, the Nevada Gaming Control Board said.

Gamblers set the previous record of $77.3 million in 1998, but that year Nevada casinos eked out a collective profit of only $472,033, while this year the house won a hefty 15.3 percent of all wagered bets, one of the highest percentages in the last decade.

Last year they pocketed 7.3 percent of the bets, or $5.3 million, the control board said.

15.3 % is a monster hold. Gotta believe the total blowing away any teasers with either side and under the total, a leading factor. Natrually the Vegas books had to need the dog and over separately to get anywhere near a 15% hold figure.
