Robert Sarver completed the $401 million purchase of the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday. Now he might be primed for another $80 million investment.
ESPN's David Aldridge reports that the Suns are prepared to offer Los Angeles Lakers free agent guard Kobe Bryant a six-year deal in excess of $80 million. According to a source, the Suns are expected to make the offer just after midnight ET, the first allowable time for free agents to be contacted. The source also told Aldridge that the Suns will try to meet with Bryant's representatives on Friday in Los Angeles.

I can only hope they succeed, would be a miserable shame if they get stuck with all that cap room and end up chasing Nash, Okur, or Ginobili with it. All those guys can be nice parts, but not $8 million a year parts.

There's one thing that hasn't even crossed Kobe's mind yet J~Man, and that's the fact that he won't have the luxury of Shaq drawing double and triple teams almost every single trip down the court now as before, opening things up for himself.

36 % Hache...a typical Kobe night for Pho....

10 for 29

6-8 Ft

29 pts...

Team loses by 8

Shaq and Kobe should have worked it out...together they could have won 7-8 titles

Oh and Shaq will become Bob Lanier the remainder of his career

Many on here will argue this, but in my opinion, Shaq should of always been the first option on offense. Hasn't everyone noticed that in years past when Shaq was the first option, the Lakers were dominating. Last couple years they have slipped, not because Shaq's game has tapered off, but because Kobe has decided to try and take things into his hands little by little......more and more........

the Lakers had chances early in the series before their mental psyche' was destroyed, Shaq was dealing and L.A. went away from him....who knows if they kept getting Shaq the ball they may have gotten game 3 or 4...Detroit still was the superior team but I totally agree Hache...Shaq should touch the ball everytime down the floor.

Not so sure about Kobe doing his Frank Sinatra imitation just lately. I remember his rookie season in the playoffs, he tried to do it all, his way. I think Kobe is the fall guy here, and I do not like his game, but with a better supporting cast he does not have to do it all. He was the best player on the team for a few championships. I think they just got a taste of Mitch Kupchak. Slowly the J.West players left. I think if Kobe gets some surrounding talent, he will be much more effective. If you were to put him on the Mavs or the Kings with motion uptempo offense he would be in heaven. And do not dismiss his defensive prowess, when he has some help. Do not get me wrong, I think he is a rapist, and a bigtime gunner. But he is one of the best players in the world. And with some help his team would be a title contender, even the Suns...Best Wishes...OF

Kobe, Stoudamire, Marion, Zarko and Barbosa with McDyess and Johnson coming off the bench. That is a pretty damn good young team right there. Still probably need a real center and Shaq would be a better fit, but still a team that could very well win the title if the Lakers get broken up and the Spurs continue to lose role players.

Would compete with New Rockets. Depleted Lakers. This is best offseason in years, fringe teams can be title contenders. Losers can become winners. If Suns get Kobe, free agent, no compensation for the Lakers? Looks good to me as they all would play well together. That team could run the floor and kill you in transition. Could be OK defensively, missing post. Futures shifting daily...Best Wishes...OF

Lets see, $80 million from Phoenix or $130 million from the Lakers. Gee I wonder who Kobe will play for next year. DUH! Kobe opted out of his contract so he could sign a bigger one with the Lakers. The media is just trying to sell newspapers by suggesting Kobe may play somewhere else. Total BS.

I would have thought if Kobe was a done deal they would have rewrote him without the possibility of being outbid. Not let him become a free agent. Old Mitch at the helm I guess? I had the Rocket trade pegged, but am clueless as to what the Lakers are doing. I'll ask Jack if he does not have a golf club near by. Name a coach already! Best Wishes...OF

Kobe is holding the Lakers hostage. He tells them to get rid of Phil. Kobe is now telling the Lakers to sign coach K. Also wants them to trade Shaq. Shaq wants out now that he is not wanted. The Lakers are doing all this even though Kobe might be playing for the Colorado State Prison team this coming year.

Well with Nash signing a day after this I guess that offer must have been rejected immediately. I don't think the Suns would have moved if Kobe said let me think about it. Letting Nash go like this could be an issue for the Mavs should they get Shaq. It would be Dirk and Shaq and bunch of spectators like the Lakers were. To get Shaq they probably have to give up all their other weapons and rely at some point on a rookie 6'3 point guard. I don't know, doesn't sound like a real great formula to me.

WildBill, The trade talk of Shaq going to Dallas involves Dirk going to LA. Forget the Dirk & Shaq on the same team.

If I was Cuban, I would not move Dirk. Dirk is younger & has alot more left in the tank then Shaq has.

I would rather take my chances & build around Dirk then build around Shaq. Yes, you could possibly win a title or two in the next couple of years but when Shaq is gone, you could have a better chance at winning more titles with Dirk on your side.

Trading Nowitzki away would defeat the whole purpose of trading for Shaq........

Dallas has a better shot in the future building around him then they do with an aging Shaq who has at best 3 years left in him.
