Rams' Hill will be inactive after early-morning arrest
November 19, 2016

LOS ANGELES (AP) Los Angeles Rams cornerback Troy Hill will be inactive for Sunday's game against Miami after his arrest early Saturday morning.

TMZ reports Hill was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after a crash on a Los Angeles-area freeway.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department records indicate Hill was arrested at 8:15 a.m. and released from custody in Van Nuys five hours later on $15,000 bail. He has a preliminary court date Dec. 14.

The Rams acknowledged an ''incident'' involving Hill in a brief statement, but called it an ''ongoing legal matter'' and provided no more details.

Hill has been a surprising contributor to the Los Angeles defense this season, ranking fourth on the team with 38 tackles. He started four games at cornerback in place of E.J. Gaines or Trumaine Johnson.

The 25-year-old Hill graduated from high school in Ventura County, near the Rams' new training complex in Thousand Oaks.

Hill also was arrested in December 2013 after a domestic violence incident during his collegiate career at Oregon. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of menacing and was sentenced to three years of probation and 70 hours of community service.

Hill was on the Ducks' Rose Bowl-winning 2014 team before playing for Cincinnati and New England last season. The Rams claimed him off waivers from the Patriots on Dec. 31.

Packers moves signal possible return of TE Jared Cook
November 19, 2016

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) The Green Bay Packers have signed linebacker Carl Bradford from their practice squad and released tight end Justin Perillo, a move that signals the likely return of starting tight end Jared Cook.

The 6-foot-4 Cook has been out since Week 3 with an ankle injury. He was listed as questionable for the game Sunday night at Washington after being a full participant in practice all week.

Cook could give quarterback Aaron Rodgers a big target sorely needed over the middle help open up the field for receivers Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Davante Adams. Without Perillo, Richard Rodgers is the only other tight end on the Packers' active roster.

The addition of Bradford gives the Packers added insurance with starting inside linebacker Jake Ryan out with an ankle injury, and outside linebacker Clay Matthews questionable for the Redskins game with a hamstring injury.

Bradford was a fourth-round draft choice of the Packers in the 2014 NFL draft. He has yet to play regular-season game for Green Bay.

Raiders hopeful Smith will be able to play
November 19, 2016

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) The Oakland Raiders are hoping to have cornerback Sean Smith back in the lineup for Monday's game in Mexico City against the Houston Texans.

Smith made it through a third consecutive day of practice Saturday and continues to wear a protective sling on his left shoulder while being listed as questionable on the team's medical report.

Coach Jack Del Rio, who rarely discusses injuries in detail, declined to say whether Smith would play but sounded optimistic.

''Our guys that are questionable, we had about six of them, I'm hoping they can all play,'' Del Rio said. ''We'll just see how it goes.''

That list includes wide receiver Amari Cooper and running back Latavius Murray, along with offensive linemen Rodney Hudson and Kelechi Osemele. All four have been limited in practice this week.

Defensive tackle Stacy McGee, who is nursing an ankle injury, joins Smith as the only defensive players on the injury list.

Smith has not played since suffering a shoulder injury on the second play of the game against Tampa Bay on Oct. 30. Although the injury wasn't serious, Smith - one of the Raiders' top free-agent acquisitions after signing a $38 million, four-year deal - was held out of Oakland's Week 9 win over Denver.

With the Raiders on a bye last week, Smith will have had three weeks of rest by the time of Monday night's kickoff.

''When you talk about bye week, midseason is always ideal for any football team,'' Smith said. ''Halfway to take a break and now we can knock out the other half.''

Smith rejoins a secondary that struggled early in the season but has played better in recent weeks.

After giving up an average of 338 passing yards through the first five weeks, the Raiders have allowed only one quarterback - Denver's Trevor Siemian - to throw for more than 240 yards in the past four games.

Texans QB Brock Osweiler passed for just 255 yards total in the last two games combined and has been held under 200 yards five times.

Smith said he is focusing more on Houston offensive coordinator George Godsey's play-calling than he is on Osweiler's low numbers.

''I personally don't like to let the quarterback dictate how I'm going to attack the game,'' Smith said. ''For me, it's playing against the offensive coordinator. The only thing I can get from a quarterback is if he likes to stare down his targets, does he have a quick release or slow release? Other than that you're kind of playing against the coordinator.

''Regardless of who the receiver or quarterback is, somebody else is controlling them. If I can understand how that guy likes to think, his favorite concepts, that's the key.''

CB Culliver waived by Dolphins
November 19, 2016

MIAMI (AP) Cornerback Chris Culliver has been waived by the Miami Dolphins, the latest setback for the veteran as he tries to come back from knee surgery.

Culliver was activated Nov. 7 but hasn't played since tearing the ACL and medial collateral ligament in his right knee last Thanksgiving while with the Redskins.

The Dolphins replaced him Saturday on the roster with center Jake Brendel, who was promoted from the practice squad for added depth Sunday against the Rams. Center Mike Pouncey is doubtful due to a recurring hip injury.

Steelers activate LB Bud Dupree
November 19, 2016

PITTSBURGH (AP) The Pittsburgh Steelers have activated linebacker Bud Dupree and placed him on the active roster a day before Sunday's game in Cleveland.

Dupree, the team's top choice in the 2015 draft, missed Pittsburgh's first nine games because of a groin injury. He had four sacks during his rookie season last fall.

To make room for Dupree, the Steelers placed defensive end Cam Heyward and wide receiver Markus Wheaton on injured reserve on Saturday. Heyward tore a pectoral muscle in last week's loss to Dallas while Wheaton has been slowed all season by a sprained shoulder that failed to heal properly.

Pittsburgh filled Wheaton's spot by promoting running back Daryl Richardson from the practice squad.

Goff makes debut against hot Dolphins
November 19, 2016

Welcome to an NFL huddle, Mr. Goff .

Your assignment, as No. 1 overall pick in April's draft who has not gotten on the field yet, but starts Sunday for the Rams against the Dolphins, is simple: win.

Doing so against a Miami team that has won four straight makes your task a bit tougher. But never mind, Jared, go out and play like fellow rookie quarterbacks Dak Prescott in Dallas and Carson Wentz in Philadelphia.

''It's been a long time, it feels like, since I've gotten out there and played,'' says Goff, and he's right - it was the preseason when he last took a meaningful snap. ''I'm excited to get back out there and play.

''I've been working hard to get to that point. I'm glad it's finally come, glad they've given me that vote of confidence and the nod. I'm ready to go and proving them right.''

The Rams (4-5) come off a 9-6 victory at the Jets, hardly a boost of confidence for the offense. So coach Jeff Fisher made the switch.

The opponent has looked formidable the past month. After winning last weekend at San Diego, the Dolphins (5-4 ) stayed in California this week to train.

''It's a different week for us just being away from home and being out of our normal facility,'' quarterback Ryan Tannehill says. ''It's definitely a challenge for us, but I think we have the focus to get it done the right way.

''I think that's one of the benefits of being out here together is we have time to spend together, to go to dinner, to hang out and build that team unity.''

The action began with Carolina's 23-20 home victory over New Orleans.

Cam Newton threw for 192 yards and a touchdown in the game marred by injuries to key players. Newton was 14 of 33 and threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Ted Ginn Jr. to help the Panthers (4-6) pull even with the Saints for third place in the NFC South.

The Panthers lost former NFL Defensive Player of the Year Luke Kuechly (concussion), two-time All-Pro center Ryan Kalil (shoulder), defensive end Mario Addison (foot) and cornerback Leonard Johnson (chest) to injuries. Kuechly left the field on a cart while tears streamed down his face. The Saints lost running back Mark Ingram to a concussion in the third quarter.

Off this week are the Falcons (6-4), Chargers (4-6), Jets (3-7) and Broncos (7-3).

Houston (6-3) vs. Oakland (7-2) at Mexico City

Football returns to a mecca of ''futbol,'' when the Raiders host the Texans at Azteca Stadium - the first regular-season game south of the border in 11 years.

''I like to watch soccer, so I'm wondering is it going to be like a soccer atmosphere where they have the horns playing and stuff like that,'' Texans cornerback A.J. Bouye says. ''I looked at the field just to see what it's like and everything. I'm already visualizing everything on what it's going to be like.

''At the end of the day, you just got to expect the unexpected, you know, packed crowd. You don't know what type of atmosphere you're going to have or how loud it's going to be, so it's exciting and you try not to think about it. At the same time, you just try to focus on the task at hand.''

The Raiders have impressed with their high-powered offense and opportunism in the league's best division, the AFC West. Don't expect Houston's Brock Osweiler, averaging a league-low 5.6 yards per pass, to keep up with that.

Pittsburgh (4-5) at Cleveland (0-10)

Sure, the Steelers have lost four in a row. In Cleveland, they are saying ''So what!''

The Browns never have been 0-10 i n a season and they enter the game with a 416-416-10 record for the two installments of the franchise. They have never been below .500, but are 14-44 since Jimmy and Dee Haslam took over as owners.

To get off this schneid, they must figure out how to beat Ohio native Ben Roethlisberger, who is 20-2 against them overall. The Steelers are 28-6 against the Browns since Cleveland returned to the league in 1999.

Baltimore (5-4) at Dallas (8-1)

The Ravens and Cowboys each are division leaders. Similarities end there.

Dallas is the NFL's hottest team, not having lost since the opener. It has that dynamic offense led by the league's best line and sensational rookies Ezekiel Elliott and Prescott. Home-field advantage in the NFC is there for the taking.

Baltimore's only reason for being on top in the AFC North is how poorly the other division members have performed. The Ravens are too streaky, winning three, losing four, then winning two.

Jacksonville (2-7) at Detroit (5-4)

Detroit is another first-place team with few credentials to be thinking January success. Again, a weak division, the NFC North, has helped the Lions, who play nothing but tight games. All nine this season have been decided by seven points or fewer and Detroit has been trailing or tied at some point in the final two minutes of regulation in each of them.

Jacksonville has struggled in great part because it has not had a takeaway in the past five games. That's tied for the longest drought since the 1970 merger. The Jaguars are an NFL-worst minus-14 in turnover differential.

Philadelphia (5-4) at Seattle (6-2-1)

Both come off impressive victories, and Pete Carroll could get his 100th NFL win on Sunday. It looks as if he'll have regular RB Thomas Rawls back from a Week 2 leg injury, and rookie C.J. Prosise gained 153 yards from scrimmage in the win at New England. They could provide balance to an offense that QB Russell Wilson had humming against the Patriots.

Philadelphia won its fourth straight at home by beating Atlanta, but is 1-4 on the road. Wentz has been up and down, though the team has scored at least 20 points in 11 straight games, the longest streak in the league. Defense and special teams have been solid for the Eagles.

Green Bay (4-5) at Washington (5-3-1)

The previous time they met, the Packers won a playoff game here in January. Now, Green Bay is reeling, losing three straight, the ground game mediocre, the blocking unsteady and the defense keeping them competitive much of the time.

Eddie Lacy has missed four games with an ankle injury, and the Packers signed running back Christine Michael after Seattle waived him.

Aaron Rodgers will need for his line to come together this week because Washington has three sacks in five consecutive games. Redskins tight end Jordan Reed had nine receptions for 120 yards and a TD in that wild-card game.

Tennessee (5-5) at Indianapolis (4-5)

Some good things are happening in Nashville, and to punctuate that, the Titans also could end a 10-game slide against the Colts. Marcus Mariota and DeMarco Murray have the offense hopping - Tennessee has scored 35 or more points in three consecutive games for the first time in a single season in franchise history. Mariota has thrown an NFL-high 17 TD passes over the past six weeks and Murray is second in the NFL with 930 yards rushing.

Indianapolis was off last week. It won the Week 7 matchup when TE Jack Doyle caught a 7-yard TD pass with 1:55 to go. The Colts will honor the 10-year anniversary of their 2006 Super Bowl championship team.

New England (7-2) at San Francisco (1-8)

Coming off that bruising home loss to Seattle, the Patriots might take out their frustrations on the 49ers. Tom Brady, who grew up in the Bay Area, has never played at San Francisco. With a win over a team that has dropped eight in a row, Brady would tie Brett Favre for second in victories by a quarterback with 199. Peyton Manning holds the record with 200.

The 49ers come off a strong but losing performance at Arizona. QB Colin Kaepernick should have fond memories of the Patriots: Kaepernick threw four TD passes in his only meeting with them, in 2012, a season the 49ers went to the Super Bowl.

Buffalo (4-5) at Cincinnati (3-5-1)

Two slumpers. Buffalo has dropped three straight and comes off a bye. The Bungles, uh, Bengals, have won only one of their past five, against inept Cleveland.

The Bills have found ways to score, getting at least 25 points in each of the past five games, and are second in rushing behind Dallas with 155 yards per game. QB Tyrod Taylor comes off a strong outing in a loss to Seattle.

Since opening last season 8-0, the Bengals are 7-10-1, including a playoff meltdown loss to Pittsburgh. Of note, though: A.J. Green is 36 yards shy of joining Randy Moss as the only NFL receivers with 1,000 yards in each of their first six seasons. Green ranks second in the league with 964 yards and third with 66 catches.

Chicago (2-7) at New York Giants (6-3)

New York has taken four in a row and has shown a penchant for big plays on offense, defense and special teams. The previous time the Giants won five straight, they also won the championship in 2011.

Safety Landon Collins has sparked the defense with four interceptions in the past three games and excellent pass coverage and run support.

Chicago has shown nothing on the road, dropping all five contests. The Bears seem to have found a running back, however, in Jordan Howard, who rushed for 100 yards in a loss to Tampa Bay last week. Howard ranks second among rookies with 605 yards rushing.

Arizona (4-4-1) at Minnesota (5-4)

What's the deal with these two 2015 playoff teams?

For Minnesota, awful blocking and injuries have contributed to four straight defeats. A defense that looked impenetrable earlier this season now looks vulnerable at times, and the kicking game has been woeful.

Still, the Vikings are tied with Detroit atop the NFC North.

The Cardinals have lost all eight meetings in Minnesota since their move to Arizona in 1988, and haven't won at the Vikings since 1977 as the St. Louis Cardinals. For them to make any headway in the NFC playoff race after being a preseason favorite, they must prosper on the road: five of their final seven games are away from Arizona.

Tampa Bay (4-5) at Kansas City (7-2)

Don't look now, but the Chiefs are tied for the AFC's best record. And they could get back their star pass rusher, Justin Houston from a lengthy injury rehab. Regardless, they are getting major contributions from safety Eric Berry, who had his fourth career interception return for a TD in last week's win at Carolina, and LB Dee Ford, whose 10 sacks are tied with Buffalo's Lorenzo Alexander for the NFL lead. KC leads the NFL with a plus-14 turnover margin.

The Buccaneers have won four straight in this series.

Patriots TE Gronkowski 'out' Sunday
November 18, 2016

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski will miss Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers with a chest injury, according to the injury report filed by the team on Friday.

Gronkowski was staggered in the second quarter of Sunday night's game against the Seattle Seahawks after taking a hard hit to his chest from safety Earl Thomas. He returned to the game but did not practice all week.

Receiver Chris Hogan is also out for the game with a back injury, the team said.

Packers' G T.J. Lang, LB Jake Ryan to miss Redskins game
November 18, 2016

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) The Green Bay Packers will be without two more starters on Sunday night against Washington after coach Mike McCarthy said guard T.J. Lang and linebacker Jake Ryan would miss the game.

Lang has a foot injury and Ryan has an ankle injury. Both players were hurt in last week's 47-25 loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Left tackle David Bakhtiari, who also left the Titans game with a knee injury, appears likely to play against the Redskins. McCarthy said Friday he has no concerns about quarterback Aaron Rodgers' blind-side protector.

McCarthy also says two other key injured players, tight end Jared Cook (foot) and linebacker Clay Matthews (hamstring), have looked good this week in practice. They were listed as questionable on the injury report for Sunday's game.

If Matthews can go, he could help replace Ryan at inside linebacker. Getting Matthews back could also help a pass rush that has slowed down the last few weeks.

Dolphins' Pouncey doubtful against Rams
November 18, 2016

CARLSBAD, Calif. (AP) Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey is doubtful for Sunday's game at the Rams because of a hip injury.

Pouncey left practice Wednesday due to the injury and sat out Thursday's drills. An injury to the same hip forced him to miss the first four games of the season

The Dolphins are already without left tackle Branden Albert, out because of a dislocated left wrist.

Linebacker Jelani Jenkins was listed as doubtful Friday due to hand and knee injuries.

Spain healthy and back as Titans LG
November 18, 2016

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Tennessee coach Mike Mularkey says left guard Quinton Spain will start Sunday at Indianapolis after missing two games and serving as a backup last week.

Mularkey said Friday that Spain worked all week with the starters and will bring more size to the line.

Spain hyper-extended his right knee Oct. 23 in a 34-26 loss to Indianapolis.

Spain is part of revamped offensive line that has Tennessee (5-5) ranked third in the NFL in rushing and with only 14 sacks allowed. He says he feels good and is happy to be back out there.

Running back DeMarco Murray also practiced for a second straight day after being given Wednesday off to rest a sore toe on his right foot.

Kuechly in NFL concussion protocol
November 18, 2016

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Panthers middle linebacker Luke Kuechly has been placed in the NFL's concussion protocol and his status for the team's Nov. 27 game against Oakland is uncertain.

Coach Ron Rivera updated Kuechly's status on Friday and said that the linebacker has no other known injuries.

The 2013 NFL Defensive Player of the Year was carted off the field in an emotional moment during the fourth quarter of Carolina's 23-20 win over the New Orleans Saints on Thursday night. Kuechly appeared to be gasping for breath as he was helped to the cart, and tears rolled down his face. Players from both sides came over to offer their well wishes to Kuechly.

Kuechly spent 34 days last season in the concussion protocol and missed three games.

Rivera described Kuechly's second known career concussion ''concerning,'' but quickly added ''I don't want to get into the speculation of all of that. I'm not the expert.''

On Friday, Kuechly's teammate and good friend Thomas Davis posted a picture on his Instagram of a smiling Kuechly giving the thumbs-up sign and wrote ''Luke wanted me to let you guys know that he's doing fine and thanks for your prayers!!''

There has been a tremendous outpouring of support for Kuechly in the Charlotte community, where he is immensely popular, as well as around the country.

NBA two-time MVP Stephen Curry, who grew up in Charlotte and is a longtime Panthers fan, posted on Twitter ''Keep your head up (hash)59! Nobody plays the game harder than you my man. Heal up Quick! (hash)KeepPounding.''

''Here's a guy that's a warrior and he loves the game,'' Rivera said. ''It was an emotional time for his teammates because his teammates know how important he is. He's a very important player for us, as are all of our players. I appreciate the outpouring (of support), I really do. He means a lot to organization and this community as well. I get that part.''

Kuechly was injured with 4:41 left in the fourth quarter when he collided with Saints running back Tim Hightower.

The five-year NFL veteran's left leg appeared to awkwardly buckle just before he hit Hightower. At that point Hightower's helmet hit Kuechly under the facemask and in the upper region of his chest.

Kuechly remained on the field for several minutes, sprawled out on his back. He eventually sat up and when he did he had tears in his eyes and was gasping for breath.

Kuechly is the seventh Panthers player to enter the team's concussion protocol since the beginning of the season. Cam Newton missed one game with a concussion and starting left tackle Michael Oher has been out since the first week of October while continuing to battle concussion symptoms.
