People use the william hill charts to see where the smart $$ is. So, to put it in simple terms using the breakdown above for the Pittsburgh/Detroit game:


40% of the tickets placed at their sports book were on Pittsburgh to win (compared to 60% on Detroit). However, 68% of the $$ placed was on Pittsburgh to win. That should tell you that there are more tickets placed on Detroit to win, but small wagered bets. So, you would go ahead and bet Pittsburgh in that sense.. Understanding that the larger individual wagers were placed on Pittsburgh to win in comparison to Detroit.

It's basically another case of the fade the public type of system that other members were talking about.
