Here are my selections for today. My top two plays will be posted in a little bit. Let me know what you think about todays selections:
5 Units Pittsburgh Steelers -4.5 -112
Stick a fork in 'em...Both of 'em!!! Oakland is an awful road team, and remember this is a long road trip, from the West Coast to the East. On top of that, bet on the Raiders at your own risk: Oakland is 3-9 straight up and 2-9-1 against the spread!!! The Raiders have been huge disappointments and are likely just looking to get this miserable season over with. They are on their third-string QB (Rick Mirer) with the other two out for the year, and this was a team that tasted AFC championship champagne in January. The Raiders can't stop the run (150 yds rushing allowed pg) and Pittsburgh will take advantage. The Steelers (4-8) have been big disappointments, too, but at least they've been competitive lately. Pitt has won two of its last four games and nearly topped the division-leading Bengals last week, 24-20. Oakland is 0-6 SU & 1-5 ATS on the road where they get outscored by a 24-16 average and the Steelers will take out their frustrations on Oakland's soft 'D'!!!
5 Units Washington Redskins +2.5 +106
Two teams in search of a country cousin to beat up on as the Skins head to the Meadowlands. Washington hasn't found many wins, either home or away, and they're off a 24-20 loss to New Orleans. The defense allowed Deuce McAllister 165 rushing yards!!! Washington squandered a lead in the fourth quarter for the third straight week and have dropped seven of their last eight following a 3-1 start. New Orleans spoiled the first career start of Redskins QB Tim Hasselbeck, who completed 21-of-41 passes for 217 yards with an interception. Hasselbeck stepped in for Patrick Ramsey, who was sidelined with a foot injury. RB Trung Candidate ran for 115 yards for Washington. Giants fans can rest easy now that Wellington Mara said there was something he could do about the Giants losing (4-8 SU & 3-8-1 ATS). Perhaps Bob Stoops will have a New York or New Jersey address somtime in January. In a dismal performance against the Bills, poor tackling, penalties, a lack of pass rush and no quarterback protection for Kerry Collins, resulted in six sacks and more low-lights. The Bills completely shut down New York's offense, holding it to 24 yards rushing. Neither team has shown much defense and after Drew Bledsoe used the Giants (1-5 SU & ATS at home) as a stepping stone for the offense, expect youngster Hasselback to have his way this week. Washington won the first meeting 24-21 on an 80+ yard punt return in the closing seconds!!!
5 Units Baltimore Ravens -3.5 -109
Dee-fense...Dee-fense...Marvin Lewis, now the head coach of Cincinnati, returns to Baltimore, where he was the defensive coordinator of the Ravens when they won the Super Bowl three seasons ago. Both these teams have been successful with defense, and with this game on grass, there won't be much scoring. This is also a key game, as both teams are tied for first in the AFC North. The division winner will go to the playoffs, the second place team will be watching the playoffs on TV. One weakness is that Cincy allows 118 yards rushing per game, and while that's not bad, it's what Baltimore likes to do (and does extremely well). The Ravens average 158 yards on the ground each game behind RB Jamal Lewis. This is the third straight home game for Baltimore and they are 5-1 SU & 3-1-1 ATS at home. Grind-it-out defensive game and likely a close one, much less scoring than Cincy's 34-26 over Baltimore on October 19!!!
5 Units Philadelphia Eagles -5 -103
A Showdown in Dallas between the top two teams in the NFC East. The Cowboys (R: 3-2 SU, ATS) choked on a turkey bone last Thursday losing to the Dolphins 40-21. No question that the Cowboys have overachieved so far but with motivator Bill Parcells as the coach it's hardly a surprise. The Big "D" defense has been stellar up until the Miami fiasco when Jay Fiedler unleashed a surprising avalanche of points and the Dallas defense showed some serious cracks. The Eagles (9-3 SU & 8-4 ATS) are now firmly atop the NFC East with a one game lead over Dallas after a critical 25-16 victory over the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers won the statistical battle but managed only field goals as the Eagles defense was able to make several crucial stops. The Dallas defense will need a big rebound following the Dolphins game and Parcells has had 10 days to inspire the troops. The Cowboys won the first meeting 23-21 as a one point dog. Quincy Carter has played error free football but the very good Eagles defense is another story. Look for the Eagles' Donovan McNabb to grab the reigns from the 'boys!!!
