RECORD YTD 56-37 (.602)
SIDES 36-26 (.580)
TOTALS 20-11 (.645)

UNDER in the LAKER/MINNY game on Friday brought home the money here. No play Sat.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. I'll ride the Laker UNDER at home once again.

Lakers are 3-20-2 OU in their last 25 at home

Want to point out that the above play is not some technical get "rich without thinking" selection. There is a fundamental basis for the Lakers defensive prowess at home. It started out as good defensive play by the Lakers and it has developed into a prideful defending of the home court.

As I posted last time from LA paper "In the past six games,(7 now)O'Neal has averaged 16.8 rebounds and four blocks -- well over his season averages of 11.4 and 2.48. And though he's scored at a modest, steady pace of 21.7 points per game, O'Neal's emphasis has clearly been at the defensive end.

He is chasing rebounds and chasing guards on pick-and-rolls. He is changing as many shots as he is blocking and -- in a concession he's always been hesitant to make -- has allowed that his defense may be the most critical asset for his team...There is little danger of the Lakers losing with a defensive-minded Shaq. They are 18-2 when he gets at least 14 rebounds and 14-0 when he gets at least 15. They are 15-1 when he blocks at least four shots.

When it was mentioned that O'Neal had embraced a defense-first philosophy, Jackson nearly fainted.

"Would you repeat that question again? Because I can't believe someone actually said that," Jackson said. "He believes the idea that he can be a defensive force and a rebounding force first and foremost? Every time I've ever said that to Shaquille, he's always said, 'I'm a scorer, I'm not a rebounder and a defensive player.'

"That's an idea I've tried to sell Shaquille for the last three years. That makes a huge difference to our team."

Coming into Staples tonight is the offensively challenged Jazz, 26th in the league in points scored but sporting a top ten defense. The last 10 between these two has seen the Total go 1-8-1. The previous 3 meetings betwen these two this year has seen the totals average out to 178.6. Talked last post about the Laker totals having gotten fat from playing 5 bottom 10 defenses in the last 5 and sure enough when the Lakers faced a top ten defense that Minny brought the resulting total was a 32 point winner. Expect more of the same tonight. Jazz coming off a big win last night and should fade offensively. Both teams coming off big emotional wins and that 12 seems high even with UTAH on a backtoback. I'll leave the side alone as the TOTAL appears to have more value.

Looking around the Internet I see the Laker Total O/U record at home as follows 8-24, 7-25, 9-24, and 3-20-2 last 25. Some discrepancies, but all indicate that the Lakers play defense at home.

Following from Covers article:
“…but a new found sense of defense has finally kept opponents in check enough to cover the spread, something the Los Angeles has had trouble with all season. The Lakers went 0-6 against the spread (ATS) before their current two-game mini-streak.
During the streak, Los Angeles kept two of the best offensive teams in the NBA, the Timberwolves and the Kings, to under 36 percent shooting from the field. The Lakers even held the Wolves to a mere 72 points, 20 below their season average.
"That's what you want to happen, know the finish line is close," Jackson told reporters. "Odds are that we'll meet (Minnesota) in the playoffs, and we wanted to send the message that we're not going to be easy to beat."
Part of the reason for the bolstered defense is the return of Malone and Fox to the starting lineup. Malone's low post defense is a welcome addition to the offensive-minded Lakers, while Fox is a noted pest whose presence at small forward was sorely missed during last year's playoffs.
"I learned we can play defense, and we can play the type of defense that will win you a championship," Fox told reporters after his club dominated Minnesota. The Wolves shot just 27-for-86 on the day.
Of course, the Lakers still score a lot of points -105.6 a night over the club's last six outings. That combination doesn't bode well for Malone's former team, the Utah Jazz. They have a date with L.A. Sunday night at Staples Center, where the Lakers are 29-5 SU and an even 16-16-2 ATS. The under is also a tremendous 24-8 at Staples.”

Line down to 184' and 184 some places. Got it here at 187' on the overnight at Olympic. Pinny soon followed. 3 point middle opportunity. According to the literature 3 point Middles come in 4% of the time. Not interesting in backing a situation that does not occur 96% of the time.

Great call OCR. You should start using my avatar; it suits you more than it does me:

Nice hit Razor! I let the line moves keep me off the play, but had a decent 2-1 anyway.
Congrats!

Looking ahead to Mondays card, the Nets are a team of interest. The Nets catch the Celtics in a back to back situation, they have revenge from Fridays loss, and the early #3 is cheap with Kidd being out. On the downside the Celtics are fighting for a playoff spot and I generally like to stay away from teams coming off a road trip(Nets had a 3 gamer). Do you have any initial thoughts on this one?

Thanks
Gary

Game unfolded like on paper. These 2 avg 178 when meeting each other. Total landed on 175. Laker defense continues to lead way. Same with Utah as defense brought home the cover on the side. Congrats on to those on the UNDER

Gary don't have time to look at NJ/BOS game just yet, but a wise man once said and I quote, "I generally like to stay away from teams coming off a road trip(Nets had a 3 gamer)." Listen to him he knows of what he speaks.
