GAME: New York Yankees (43-36) at Houston Astros (55-27)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, July 02 - 2:10 PM EST
WHERE: Minute Maid Park, Houston, Texas
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Luis Severino is coming off his most dominant performance of the season and will get a chance to avenge his worst when he takes the mound for the New York Yankees on Sunday in the rubber match of a three-game series at the Houston Astros. New York's bullpen unraveled in Saturday's loss, derailing its bid for back-to-back victories for the first time since a six-game winning streak from June 7-12.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi decided to give a rest day to Aaron Judge, who leads the majors with 27 homers, paving the way for top prospect Clint Frazier to make his major-league debut on Saturday. Frazier lived up to the advance billing, becoming the first player in franchise history to homer and double in his first career game. Houston (55-27), which owns the best record in the majors, spoiled the ending of Frazier's debut by rallying for four runs in the eighth inning of a 7-6 victory. Yuli Gurriel belted a two-run homer before capping his fifth multiple-hit game in the last nine with a two-out, two-run double off New York closer Aroldis Chapman -- the 15th blown save for the Yankees this season.

TV: 2:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, YES (New York), ROOT Southwest (Houston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees RH Luis Severino (5-3, 3.15 ERA) vs. Astros RH Mike Fiers (5-3, 3.98)

Severino was overpowering last time out at the Chicago White Sox, striking out a career-best 12 batters and allowing one run over seven innings in a no-decision. The 23-year-old has pitched at least six innings in seven straight starts, but he lasted a season-low 2 1/3 innings in a no-decision against Houston on May 14. In eight starts away from Yankee Stadium this season, Severino is 2-0 with a 2.50 ERA.

Fiers' winning streak was snapped at four Tuesday versus Oakland, when gave up four runs and four hits over 5 2/3 innings. The Florida native was 4-0 over his previous five starts, allowing six runs, and has not yielded a homer in six straight outings after surrendering 18 in his first nine turns. Two of those came in an 11-6 loss at New York on April 14, when he gave up four runs in 5 2/3 innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Yankees SS Didi Gregorius hit a grand slam Saturday, giving the Yankees one in in back-to-back games for the first time since June 12-13, 2010.

2. Astros SS Carlos Correa has 12 RBIs during his 11-game hitting streak.

3. Yankees LF Brett Gardner is 8-for-18 with seven RBIs and seven runs scored during a four-game hitting streak.

GAME: Minnesota Twins (41-39) at Kansas City Royals (40-40)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, July 02 - 2:15 PM EST
WHERE: Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Minnesota Twins hope to end their road trip on a high note and earn a split of their four-game series when they visit the Kansas City Royals for the finale on Sunday. Minnesota came out even after Saturday's doubleheader, dropping the opener to extend its losing streak to three games before rolling in the nightcap to improve to 5-5 on the 11-game trek.

Miguel Sano looks to continue abusing Kansas City's pitching staff after homering in both games of the twinbill and finishing Saturday with four RBIs. The 24-year-old Dominican has driven in five runs in the series, raising his RBI total against the Royals this year to 23 - a single-season franchise record. Kansas City belted six home runs in the doubleheader, including four in the Game 1 victory. One of those shots was the 22nd of the season for Mike Moustakas, which ties the career high he set in 2015 and matched the record for most by a Royal before the All-Star break established in 2000 by Jermaine Dye.

TV: 2:15 p.m. ET, FSN North (Minnesota), FSN Kansas City

PITCHING MATCHUP: Twins LH Hector Santiago (4-7, 5.37 ERA) vs. Royals LH Travis Wood (1-2, 6.28)

Santiago lost his sixth straight decision Tuesday, even though he worked only two innings at Boston due to a rain delay. A two-run homer was the only hit allowed by the 29-year-old native of New Jersey, who even suffered a loss in relief against Tampa Bay on May 28 during his slide. Santiago is 3-3 with a 3.93 ERA in 17 career appearances (11 starts) against Kansas City and 1-0 with a 3.60 mark in two turns this season.

Wood will be making his first start since 2015 while with the Chicago Cubs after 25 appearances out of the bullpen in his first season with the Royals. The 30-year-old from Arkansas has thrown 9 1/3 scoreless innings over his last seven relief outings, giving up only five hits and issuing one walk in that span. Wood has allowed five runs on nine hits and eight walks over seven frames in five career games (one start) against Minnesota.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Royals designated Seth Maness for assignment to make room for fellow RHP Luke Farrell, who made his major-league debut by starting the first game of Saturday's doubleheader and yielding five runs over 2 2/3 innings.

2. Minnesota optioned Alan Busenitz to Triple-A Rochester and recalled fellow RHP Ryan Pressly, who allowed three runs - two earned - and four hits over two innings of the doubleheader opener.

3. Kansas City recalled RHP Miguel Almonte from Triple-A Omaha to replace LHP Matt Strahm, who was placed on the 10-day disabled list with patellar tendinitis in his left knee after exiting the first game on Saturday in the fourth inning.

GAME: Seattle Mariners (40-42) at Los Angeles Angels (43-42)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, July 02 - 3:37 PM EST
WHERE: Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Anaheim, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

After winning exactly 14 games in each of the first three months of the season, the Los Angeles Angels are determined to top that number in July. They’ll look to take another step in that direction Sunday as they host the Seattle Mariners for the rubber match of their three-game series.

Ricky Nolasco tossed his first complete game of the season and Andrelton Simmons belted a solo homer in Saturday’s 4-0 win as the Angels rebounded from a 10-0 loss in Friday’s series opener. Bud Norris was activated from the disabled list before the game and rejoins a crowded bullpen that includes several options at closer for manager Mike Scioscia, including Cam Bedrosian and Huston Street. “We have strength in numbers right now, a lot of guys throwing the ball well,” Scioscia told reporters. “There are gonna be games when Bud closes and games when someone else closes. We’ll use every bullpen piece in whatever roles and matchups come up.” Seattle has lost five of its last six games and could be without Nelson Cruz after the slugger exited Saturday’s contest in the fifth inning with a sore right knee.

TV: 3:37 p.m. ET, ROOT Northwest (Seattle), FSN West (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mariners LH James Paxton (5-3, 3.44 ERA) vs. Angels RH Jesse Chavez (5-8, 5.04)

Paxton turned in an encouraging outing on Tuesday against Philadelphia, allowing three runs with nine strikeouts in seven innings. The 28-year-old is 0-3 with a 7.65 ERA over his last four starts but has fanned a total of 17 batters in his last two outings. Albert Pujols is 5-for-22 with two homers against the Canadian, who is 3-2 with a 2.12 ERA in eight career starts versus Los Angeles and has posted a 2.18 ERA in three outings at Angel Stadium.

Chavez bounced back from a rough outing against the New York Yankees by allowing two runs over 5 1/3 innings on Tuesday versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Southern California native did not give up a home run in the loss, snapping a franchise-record 13-game streak of allowing at least one blast. Chavez owns a 1-6 record and 5.40 ERA in 18 career games (eight starts) against Seattle, and he’s struggled to contain Cruz (7-for-17, three homers) and Robinson Cano (11-for-25).

WALK-OFFS

1. The Angels optioned INF Jefry Marte and RHP Brooks Pounders to Triple-A Salt Lake.

2. The Mariners are 6-33 when trailing after six innings.

3. Angels 3B Yunel Escobar is 16-for-33 in eight games against Seattle this season.

GAME: Atlanta Braves (39-41) at Oakland Athletics (35-46)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, July 02 - 4:05 PM EST
WHERE: Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Dansby Swanson has struggled at times in his first full major-league season, but the Atlanta Braves' shortstop enters Sunday’s series finale at the Oakland Athletics after an impactful Saturday. Mired in a 1-for-16 skid midway through Saturday’s 4-3 victory, Swanson delivered a pair of go-ahead RBI doubles as the Braves survived blowing a two-run lead to win for the 10th time in 14 games, and are in position to sweep the three-game series Sunday and pull within one game of .500.

Atlanta (39-41), which will face a left-handed starter for just the ninth time this season Sunday, won in its final at-bat for the 13th time in 2017. The Athletics sit in last place in the American League West and defensive woes have troubled them all season. After not making an error in its previous five games, Oakland committed two Saturday to raise its major-league leading total to 73. Third baseman Ryon Healy went 3-for-3 on Saturday and is hitting .405 in nine interleague games this season.

TV: 4:05 p.m. ET, FSN South (Atlanta), NBCSN California (Oakland)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Braves RH Julio Teheran (6-6, 5.30 ERA) vs. A’s LH Sean Manaea (7-4, 3.87)

Teheran ended June with a thud, giving up seven runs on seven hits in just three innings while losing at home to Milwaukee last Sunday. That effort followed a three-start stretch during which the 26-year-old only allowed 16 hits in 20 1/3 innings while posting a 2.66 ERA. Teheran has done his best work away from home, going 5-0 with a 2.89 ERA in seven road starts.

Manaea sat at 1-3 with a 5.18 ERA at the end of April, but the 25-year-old has been outstanding since, going 6-2 with a 3.29 ERA and a .234 batting average against. He won at Houston on Tuesday, scattering nine hits but surrendering only one run in 5 2/3 innings. Manaea has won six of his past seven decisions and struck out seven or more hitters seven times in 14 starts in 2017.

WALK-OFFS

1. One game after his 11-game hitting streak ended, Atlanta CF Ender Inciarte finished 1-for-5 and ranks among the major-league leaders with 103 hits on the season.

2. Oakland's bullpen allowed three earned runs in three innings Saturday, raising its season ERA to 4.99.

3. Atlanta LF Danny Santana stole three bases Saturday and is batting .297 in his past 29 games.

GAME: Colorado Rockies (48-35) at Arizona Diamondbacks (51-31)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, July 02 - 4:10 PM EST
WHERE: Chase Field, Phoenix, Arizona
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

One day after halting their three-game slide, the Arizona Diamondbacks attempt to conclude their 10-game homestand with a winning record when they host the Colorado Rockies on Sunday for the finale of their three-game series. Arizona dropped a 6-3 decision in the opener but bounced back Saturday to move to 5-4 on the string at Chase Field with a 6-2 victory behind ace Zack Greinke, who worked seven strong innings to improve to 8-0 at home this year.

David Peralta went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Chris Owings delivered a run-scoring double, giving him three RBIs over the first two games of the series. Colorado registered only six hits as it suffered its ninth loss in 10 contests and fell to 1-7 on its nine-game road trip. Nolan Arenado notched two of the hits by the Rockies but remained tied with Mark Reynolds for the team lead with 61 RBIs. Trevor Story ended his 10-game home run drought Saturday, launching his 11th of the year for Colorado's only runs of the game.

TV: 4:10 p.m. ET, ROOT Rocky Mountain (Colorado), FSN Arizona

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH German Marquez (5-4, 4.38 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Taijuan Walker (6-3, 3.50)

Marquez's string of three consecutive outings in which he allowed one earned run ended Monday, when he was reached for five runs and seven hits over four innings of a loss at San Francisco. The 22-year-old Venezuelan rookie won only once during the three-start streak, which raised his total of turns with fewer than two earned runs allowed to seven. Marquez is 0-1 in three starts against Arizona this season but gave up a total of one run over 12 frames in the two no-decisions.

Walker struggled against St. Louis on Tuesday but escaped with a no-decision after yielding five runs - three earned - on six hits and five walks without recording a strikeout in 6 1/3 innings. The 24-year-old native of Louisiana won each of his previous three turns - all on the road - as he allowed a total of four runs in 17 frames. Walker split two starts at Colorado this season, giving up one earned run with no walks in the loss on May 7 but three with four free passes in the win on June 21.

WALK-OFFS

1. Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt is 2-for-18 over his last five games after registering one of the team's three triples on Saturday.

2. Reynolds struck out in all four at-bats Saturday and has whiffed 15 times on the road trip.

3. Seven of Arizona's eight hits on Saturday went for extra bases.

GAME: Los Angeles Dodgers (55-28) at San Diego Padres (33-48)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, July 02 - 4:40 PM EST
WHERE: Petco Park, San Diego, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

After being overshadowed by his prolific teammates for the last three months, Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Logan Forsythe appears ready to join the festivities. Forsythe has recorded four hits in back-to-back contests for the Dodgers, who aim for a sweep of their three-game series against the host San Diego Padres on Sunday.

Forsythe has raised his batting average 39 points in the last two games and is hitting .247 after being limited by various injuries in his first few months with the Dodgers. The 30-year-old is yet another weapon for a loaded Los Angeles team that has won 20 of its last 23 games and outscored the Padres 18-4 over the last two contests. The Dodgers have won seven of their first eight meetings this season with San Diego, which struck out 13 times and was held to four hits in Saturday’s 8-0 loss. Manuel Margot, a key part of the team's rebuilding plan, registered two hits along with two stolen bases and is 8-for-15 during his four-game hitting streak.

TV: 4:40 p.m. ET, SportsNet LA (Los Angeles), FSN San Diego

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers RH Kenta Maeda (6-3, 4.15 ERA) vs. Padres RH Jhoulys Chacin (6-7, 4.76 ERA)

Maeda bounced between the bullpen and rotation in June but may have an earned an extended stay as a starter after tossing seven scoreless innings against the Angels on Tuesday. After struggling in the first two months of the season, the 29-year-old was 2-1 with one save and a 1.71 ERA in five games (three starts) in June. Maeda is 2-2 with a 3.38 ERA in six career starts against San Diego, including five strong innings on May 5.

Chacin was a hard-luck loser on Tuesday after allowing two runs and seven hits over seven innings against Atlanta. The 29-year-old solidified his spot in the rotation in June, posting a 3.00 ERA with 27 strikeouts against 10 walks in five starts covering 33 frames. Yasmani Grandal is 2-for-12 with three strikeouts against Chacin, who is 9-8 with a 4.37 ERA in 22 career games (21 starts) versus the Dodgers.

WALK-OFFS

1. Dodgers MGR Dave Roberts will be back on the bench Sunday after serving a one-game suspension for his role in Friday’s benches-clearing incident.

2. San Diego RHP Trevor Cahill (shoulder) will be activated from the disabled list in time to start Tuesday at Cleveland.

3. The Dodgers are 16-1 when hitting three or more home runs this season.

GAME: Washington Nationals (47-34) at St. Louis Cardinals (39-41)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, July 02 - 8:05 PM EST
WHERE: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, Missouri
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The St. Louis Cardinals gave up more runs in June than they had allowed in any month over the last five years, yet all they have done this weekend is silence the National League's most proficient offense. The Cardinals seek their fifth straight victory and a three-game sweep of the NL's best road team Sunday, when they host the Washington Nationals.

St. Louis surrendered 139 runs last month - its highest mark since May 2012 - while Washington finished the month with an NL-best 161 runs and enter the weekend with a 25-15 record away from home. Mike Leake set the tone for the Cardinals in Friday's 8-1 victory with eight innings of one-run ball and Michael Wacha followed suit in Saturday's 2-1 triumph with a season-high nine strikeouts over six strong frames. The Nationals' typically potent Nos. 3-5 hitters (Bryce Harper, Ryan Zimmerman and Daniel Murphy, who all are batting over .300 with at least 14 homers and 55 RBIs) are a combined 5-for-20 with no RBIs through he first two games in this series. Offense figures to be at a premium for both teams in Sunday's finale, as two of the NL's top four ERA leaders square off when Max Scherzer (first) opposes Carlos Martinez (fourth).

TV: 8:05 p.m. ET, ESPN

PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals RH Max Scherzer (9-5, 2.06 ERA) vs. Cardinals RH Carlos Martinez (6-6, 2.88)

Despite failing to record at least 10 strikeouts for the first time in seven outings Tuesday against the Chicago Cubs, Scherzer still earned the victory after yielding only one run and two hits while fanning six over six innings. The major-league leader in strikeouts (151) and WHIP (0.78) has given up only six earned runs and 22 hits over his last seven starts spanning 54 frames. Scherzer struck out 10 in six innings during a loss to St. Louis on April 12, falling to 1-4 with a 3.14 ERA in seven career starts versus the Cardinals.

Martinez logged a fourth consecutive quality start but did not factor in the decision Tuesday at Arizona, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks while fanning 10 in six innings. The 25-year-old Dominican has completed at least six frames in 12 consecutive turns and registered at least 10 strikeouts four times this season. Martinez's only start in five appearances versus Washington was a head-to-head battle against Scherzer in May 2016 and resulted in a loss after he permitted four runs despite striking out eight in 6 2/3 innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. St. Louis C Yadier Molina went 1-for-2 on Saturday to extend his hitting streak to a career high-tying 16 games.

2. Washington has scored exactly one run in each of its last three meetings with the Cardinals - all losses - after totaling 22 en route to winning both of its first two contests in the season series.

3. St. Louis' Mike Matheny earned his 500th career managerial win in his 890th game Saturday, making him the second-quickest among active managers - and in club history - to reach that mark.
