KEY STAT: Turkey have won 10 of their last 11 matches

EXPERT VERDICT: USA’s recent struggles against European opponents have included defeats against Austria and Ukraine and Jurgen Klinsmann’s men were again unimpressive in beating Azerbaijan earlier this week. They are not fancied to emerge from a tough group in Brazil and a resurgent Turkey can accentuate that feeling with a win here.

RECOMMENDATION: Turkey

KEY STAT: Germany have kept clean sheets in six of their last eight matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Cameroon qualified for the World Cup in good style, but the gap between themselves and the top sides was laid bare in a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Portugal in March. Germany have lost just one of their last 19 fixtures and should possess too much talent to be troubled by the Indomitable Lions.

RECOMMENDATION: Germany-Germany

KEY STAT: Both teams have scored in nine of Paraguay's last ten matches

EXPERT VERDICT: France were impressive in their 4-0 dismantling of Norway and can follow up by beating a Paraguayan side lacking in both experience and quality. Victor Genes’ youthful charges may bring a sense of adventure to proceedings and the French can fill their boots in what could turn into a high-scoring encounter.

RECOMMENDATION: Both teams to score

KEY STAT: Israel are without a win in seven matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Israel ran out 2-0 winners when these sides met in a friendly last year but Honduras look to have improved and can turn the tables. The Central Americans performed well to qualify for the World Cup, finishing ahead of Mexico, who hammered Israel 3-0 on Wednesday night.

RECOMMENDATION: Honduras

Calder - Race #1 - Post: 12:55pm - Maiden Claiming - 7.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $10,500 Class Rating: 51

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#2 DISTINCTION IMAGE (ML=8/1)
#6 CEIBA HONOR (ML=4/1)

DISTINCTION IMAGE - The last time I saw this horse was at Gulfstream in a race with a class rating of 77. Dropping considerably in class rating today puts him in a solid position in this event. This gelding is entered right back into a race in less than 10 days; this is a positive sign. Cascallares moves this gelding to the dirt today. Look for a chance at a big improvement from the most recent grass race. CEIBA HONOR - I really like sprint horses that make a quick turnaround. Looking at today's class rating, this thoroughbred is meeting an easier field than last time around the track at Calder.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 DIANE'S DANNYBOY (ML=5/2), #5 SIR TOBY (ML=3/1), #1 ANTARES DREAM (ML=4/1),

DIANE'S DANNYBOY - This morning-line favorite ran on May 4th and hasn't had a work after that. No early speed in this contest to help this rallier's hopes. SIR TOBY - You figure that this horse is going to be first just because he's always close. Just doesn't win often. ANTARES DREAM - The Brain always warns me to stay away from ponies in sprint races that haven't finished in the money in sprint contests lately. In this type of situation, this horse's inability to close ground in the last race is definitely troubling.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Have to go with #2 DISTINCTION IMAGE on the win end if we get at least 5/2 odds

RECOMMENDED CHOICES
The Walker Group Picks

# 3 BAFFOONERY 5/2

# 5 CAPTAIN LEWIS 10/1

# 4 MILWAUKEE MIXER 7/2

BAFFOONERY looks to be a very strong contender. Looks strong for the conditions of this contest today, showing solid numbers in dirt sprint races lately. Players get an edge when playing this trainer in a dirt sprint race. Has been running solidly lately and ought to be on the front end early on. CAPTAIN LEWIS - Ought to be considered for this race if only for the very good speed rating earned in the last race. He has a competitive distance/surface win record - 4 for 14. MILWAUKEE MIXER - Looks decent to be close to the front end at the first call. Horses who have been prepared to race at this distance and surface by Macrae have shown sharp results lately.

Santa Anita - Race #4 - Post: 2:30pm - Maiden Special - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $56,000 Class Rating: 84

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#1 WASTED AT MIDNIGHT (ML=4/1)
#6 SPY GIRL (ML=4/1)

WASTED AT MIDNIGHT - Utilizing this jockey/conditioner combination is a good choice. Ran a winning race May 10th, but just couldn't beat the winner. This filly is in exceptional physical condition right now. Finished second in the last race and comes back rapidly. SPY GIRL - This horse's last race was out at Santa Anita in a race with an Equibase class figure of 89. Dropping significantly in Equibase class figure this time around puts her in a solid position in this race.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 LITTLE MISS S (ML=9/5), #8 DENOTATION (ML=9/2), #4 SOUTHERN SUNSHINE (ML=5/1),

LITTLE MISS S - Not the best 'spot' in this event. DENOTATION - Would have to get better off that fifth place finish last time out to make an impact here. This filly hasn't had any strong finishes in sprint races in the last couple months. Don't believe this runner will do much running in today's race. That last speed rating was run-of-the-mill when compared with today's Equibase class figure. SOUTHERN SUNSHINE - Finished fourth on May 10th after the long turnout. Doubtful if there will be a reversal of fortune in this affair.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - WASTED AT MIDNIGHT - Registering a speed figure of 77 two back and then following up with a rating of 93 last race on March 16th, this filly is ready to do some damage.

#5 HOT SQUEEZE takes a class drop (-4) this afternoon, and is the pace profile leader in this allowance field sprinting at 6.0 furlongs on the grass, and has hit the board in "POWER RUN FASHION" in four of her last five outings, winning twice in this recent streak of racing consistency. #6 FANCY BOSS has had just three starts in her young career to date, winning twice in "POWER RUN FASHION" including a "POWER RUN WIN" to break her maiden in her "first asking."

BEST BET: Thirteen Arrows (3rd race)

First Race
1. Daredevil 2. Big Trouble 3. Francis Freud
DAREDEVIL is a half-brother to Albertus Maximus, winner of BC Dirt Mile (on synthetic) and Donn Handicap on dirt; call in first baby race of the season. BIG TROUBLE is by very good debut sire, and a full brother to Silver Lining John, a sprint winner on dirt, turf and synthetic; sharp blowout from gate. FRANCIS FREUD is a full to Franny Freud, 8-2-0 from 11 starts including first-out win at Belmont in '09 and then-Grade 1 Prioress in '10. RICHIE'S TRIX a $100K in-training purchase recently; kin to the good turf miler Trix in the City.

Second Race
1. Loveisheartandsoul 2. Toy Cannon 3. Best Play
LOVEISHEARTANDSOUL posted impressive maiden win from off the pace first time going long last fall, smashing $40K maidens and becoming eligible for this starter allowance; returns. TOY CANNON had a consistent if frustrating 2013, getting blanked from nine tries while picking up four runner-up finishes with virtually identical Beyers; goes well fresh. BEST PLAY comes off his two fastest races in pair of May off-the-turfers; figures close with OLD UPSTART in the event of another surface switch.

Third Race
1. Thirteen Arrows 2. Predicate 3. Miss Lauren Ann
THIRTEEN ARROWS matched the Beyer par rallying wide to just miss in debut, then broke alertly at 3-5 only to be cooked in a pace duel through sharp fractions; given two months, working bullets at Saratoga. PREDICATE ran into a buzzsaw in Smashing first time back from a freshening, and finished willingly to edge CANDY PORTENA for second; caught up in a duel at a mile here last fall. MISS LAUREN ANN has turned in a trio of fast works at Finger Lakes in preparation for first start since three runner-up finishes over the winter, the latest vs. allowance repeater How.

Fourth Race
1. Hot Squeeze 2. Aesthetique 3. Fancy Boss
HOT SQUEEZE has won twice from five outings, but it could easily be four wins, as she has twice been nipped in photos in Maryland stakes; promising Beyer pattern after matching 2YO top second time back. AESTHETIQUE improved through three starts at 2, finishing well behind FANCY BOSS and MISSY BAY at 5 1/2 & 6 furlongs, before crushing maidens at 7 panels; among four making their seasonal bow in a competitive dash.

Fifth Race
1. Thomas Hill 2. Mia Poppy 3. Fast Time
THOMAS HILL kept some tough company at Gulfstream, notably against Drunken Love, who has won or placed in 11 straight; drops after even try behind winning stablemate Awakino Cat. MIA POPPY makes first start since throw-out race New Year's Day on the inner dirt; two best Beyers were produced on this turf course when fresh last spring. FAST TIME rebounded smartly back on grass for second start of form cycle; doubled in price, distance main question.

Sixth Race
1. Joy Seeker 2. Strike Accord 3. Alternative Meds
JOY SEEKER was clipped from behind by STRIKE ACCORD when they finished 1 1/2 lengths apart at Aqueduct, in what was the first race of the season for both mares, as it was for third finisher STOCK FUND. Little to choose between the trio, although Joy Seeker's pace versatility could be a potential edge. ALTERNATIVE MEDS outran her odds repeatedly last spring while rising up the ladder; she is one of the group's two dual winners at 1 1/16 miles along with CARIBEAN BEAT, who also returns from a layoff in a wide open affair.

Seventh Race
1. Springcourt 2. Kings Village 3. Seeker
SPRINGCOURT was reclaimed from strong but belated finish May 17, and went gamely six days later for sixth exacta finish in seven starts over the track, while unable to catch SEEKER, who had shaken loose on the lead; better pace matchup against that rival this time. KINGS VILLAGE is hard to gauge after skyrocketing to new Beyer top in the mud and nosediving on yielding turf after that; winless long time. SEEKER draws the rail and will need alert break.

Eighth Race
1. McIlroy 2. Stableford 3. Adirondack Dancer
MCILROY was a relatively rare Chad Brown claim two winters ago, and now steps up to the allowance ranks after running his way through selling conditions in three progressively faster efforts, the latest on this course at a mile; may be this good now. STABLEFORD rallied wide to contest the lead in stretch and was clearly second best to Mr. Jenney ($4.60) in encouraging U.S. bow; shortening up to a mile suits. ADIRONDACK DANCER makes first start at 5, and may be ready to roll in view of near-miss at 11-1 on the Widener last spring, followed soon after by 102 Beyer on the same course.

Ninth Race
1. Hard Rumor 2. Copper Core 3. Born in Brooklyn
HARD RUMOR is a half-brother to turf stakes winner Beebe Lake and several other six-figure earners on grass; fair try here last fall, overbet in off-the-turf return. COPPER CORE is second off the bench after forcing the pace to stretch first try on the lawn; softer spot. BORN IN BROOKLYN would also be getting some class relief if able to draw in, as would THE MOOCHE, who has been gelded since two starts at Saratoga as a juvenile.
