Preview: Trail Blazers at Wizards
Gracenote
Nov 17, 2018

The Portland Trail Blazers are enduring their first losing streak of the season while getting off to a tough start on their six-game road trip. The Trail Blazers will try to avoid a third consecutive setback when they visit the Washington Wizards on Sunday.

Portland fell at the Los Angeles Lakers and the Timberwolves to begin a trip that also stops in Milwaukee and Golden State and shot 42 percent in Friday's 112-96 setback in Minnesota. "It would be a concern if we weren’t getting good looks," point guard Damian Lillard told reporters. "I think the quality of our shots is pretty good. In this league, I've learned that the odds of you continuing to miss good looks over long periods of time is very slim. It's a slim chance we continue to miss them. As long as we keep creating those same types of opportunities, I think eventually we'll shoot the ball really well." The Wizards know all about poor shooting after connecting at 32.6 percent from the floor in the second half of Friday's 115-104 loss to the Brooklyn Nets. "We started out the game with pretty good energy, but we didn’t continue throughout the rest of the game," center Dwight Howard told reporters. "We have to do a better job, especially in the second half. (We should be) bringing more intensity to the third quarter, starting the quarters off right and just going from there."

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NBCS Northwest (Portland), NBCS Washington

ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (10-5): Lillard leads Portland in scoring at an average of 25.7 points but is coming off a tough performance in Minnesota in which he shot 5-of-18 from the floor and committed five turnovers. "The ball is in my hands a lot and the team counts on me to take care of the ball and make sure that we get quality possessions," Lillard told reporters. "I didn't do a great job of that. Sometimes games go that way." Friday's loss marked a season-low in scoring for the Trail Blazers, who reached 100 points in each of their first 14 contests.

ABOUT THE WIZARDS (5-10): Washington was enjoying its best string of the young season with wins in three straight before falling off in the second half against the Nets. "We couldn’t generate enough (3-point shots), and then we couldn’t knock down any shots," Wizards coach Scott Brooks told reporters. "They were clogging up the paint and we just didn't have anything going offensively. The problem was that we couldn't stay in front of the basketball tonight." Washington shot 3-of-18 from 3-point range in the loss as John Wall (1-of-5) and Bradley Beal (1-of-3) struggled.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Trail Blazers C Jusuf Nurkic recorded a double-double in each of the last three games

2. Howard recorded season highs of 25 points and 17 rebounds on Friday.

3. Washington's lone win during a 1-7 start was a 125-124 overtime triumph at Portland on Oct. 22.

Preview: Warriors at Spurs
Gracenote
Nov 18, 2018

The San Antonio Spurs will try to bounce back from a winless three-game road trip against the top team in their conference when they host the Golden State Warriors on Sunday. A 116-111 loss at the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday capped the Spurs' 0-3 swing, and they are in danger of falling below .500 - a place they haven't been since starting the 2015-16 season 0-1.

"Everybody on this team hates losing," San Antonio guard DeMar DeRozan told reporters. "We want to figure it out as quick as possible. We want to get on top of this thing and get rolling." This marks the first meeting of the season between the two teams that have accounted for the last six Western Conference crowns. The Warriors have lost two in a row for the first time this season after falling 112-109 at Dallas on Saturday, which left the defending champs with a 4-4 road mark. Leading scorer Stephen Curry (groin) missed his fifth straight game while forward Draymond Green (toe) also was sidelined and already has been ruled out for this contest.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NBA TV, NBCS Bay Area (Golden State), FS Southwest (San Antonio)

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (12-5): Kevin Durant (32 points) and Klay Thompson (22) accounted for roughly half of Golden State's points Saturday, but they were a combined 2-for-15 from 3-point range. The other three starters combined for only 13 points while four reserves totaled 42 on 16-of-28 shooting. Guard Quinn Cook led that quartet with 15 points and is averaging 15.1 over his last seven games while making 55.9 percent from long range.

ABOUT THE SPURS (7-7): DeRozan scored 34 points in the loss to the Clippers while star forward LaMarcus Aldridge continued his offensive woes with 10 points on 3-of-15 shooting. The six-time All-Star is averaging 12.6 points - more than 10 below his average in 2017-18 - while shooting 32.4 percent over his last five games. "He's going to figure it out," DeRozan told reporters of Aldridge. "His whole career, he's been a scorer, shooter. That don't go nowhere. I see guys at 70 years old … (Shooting) is the last thing that goes. It's definitely going to come back around."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Spurs C Pau Gasol (foot) is expected to miss his sixth straight game and SF Davis Bertans will sit this one out after being placed in the league's concussion protocol.

2. Durant averaged 28.2 points and 8.6 rebounds in the playoffs against the Spurs last season.

3. Golden State averaged 114.7 points in three regular-season wins over San Antonio in 2017-18 and then was held to a season-low 75 in its one loss to the Spurs.
