SALT LAKE CITY – A Utah sandwich shop employee has been arrested on accusations he put methamphetamine and THC into the drink of a uniformed police officer.

A probable cause statement filed Tuesday says the Layton police sergeant immediately felt impaired after getting the drink at a Subway restaurant Monday. He struggled to find the brake pedal of his patrol car at a red light and couldn't answer questions at the police station.

Police Lt. Travis Lyman says the officer has been released from a hospital and is OK.

Tanis Ukena was arrested on suspicion of surreptitiously giving a poisonous substance. He denied the allegations.

Lyman says police don't know why Ukena drugged the drink.

It's unclear if Ukena has an attorney. No listed phone number for him could be found.

Haha.....Training Day is a good movie. I'm thinking Subway has the worker on camera putting the substances in his drink before handing it to the officer......because there's no way you can single out a person & arrest him w/o evidence.....but now a days, who knows.

Yeah, I've been in the restaurant business for a while & you gave to wonder if some nut is crazy enough, they could do some real damage by poisoning food, & then.not only does that person get into trouble, but a fat lawsuit against the business will be seen.

Am I assuming wrong by saying the cop in this story has a possible lawsuit against Subway?

of course he can sue them, and would probably win....I always struggled with this type of thing though...how could Subway possibly be at fault in a situation like this?

Unless it is on video or the kid confesses I call bullshit on this. Cop could have been high on his own during shift and took a lunch break at Subway. Got a little too high and crashed his vehicle and blaming some kid. Doesn't say if he crashed his squad car. Article kind of vague.

Don't you get your own drink at Subway?

Yes you do......I've been to Subway a ton of times & after reading the story, it didn't click in my mind......hmm.....there's gotta be more to the story here. Makes absolutely no sense if the customer gets their own drink.

Unless you go drive-thru

Ah, yes, forgot about drive thru Subways......there's only one drive thru Subway that I'm aware of in.my town, & it use to be a Dunkin Donuts store, so I just figured since the drive thru was there, they decided to use it.......I never knew Subways were built on purpose with a drive thru.

So if the cop did go thru one, then that's the only way I see it happening, & since this kid was arrested, I'm assuming they checked video surveillance.

Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? One guy has this baby-face kid doing 10 years. No wonder the demagogue message rings true.

No sense whatsoever. First he's working at Subway, earning pennies. Why would some kid waste his expensive drugs on some cop? Second, the kid doesn't look like he's ever even seen meth, he's got pink baby skin. On top of that, "THC"? What the fuck form of THC are they talking about? I'm sure this kid can get his hands on a bag of pot, but the vagueness makes it sound like an extract (I mean is the kid going to throw buds in his drink?), which is much less common and more expensive for a Subway employee. Not likely for some kid to have. I call bullshit. Hell, didn't we just have a thread on a false-positive drug test, where we talk about the failure rate being over 20%? What about other people at the Subway? Or perhaps that Cop is a filthy pig and he had his reasons to retaliate on some kid.

THC is what the blood is tested for. I'm guessing the officer's blood was tested and came back positive for THC.
