I'm not sure as far as That area/State, but in NY there has been plenty of Rapes or muggings with the way he came in right behind her.
When he got to his Apartment he had a Key .... so what she should have said , I'll close the front door and you can use your key to get in.
and I would have done it no matter what color he was. But because it's a White girl and a Black guy, it made the news
