Media coverage of John McCain has been heavily unfavorable since the political conventions, more than three times as negative as the portrayal of Barack Obama, a new study says.

Fifty-seven percent of the print and broadcast stories about the Republican nominee were decidedly negative, the Project for Excellence in Journalism says in a report out today, while 14 percent were positive. The McCain campaign has repeatedly complained that the mainstream media are biased toward the senator from Illinois.

Obama's coverage was more balanced during the six-week period from Sept. 8 through last Thursday, with 36 percent of the stories clearly positive, 35 percent neutral or mixed and 29 percent negative.

McCain's campaign didn't do themselves any favor with the way they handled the media in reference to Palin. I think even a bit before that, they boycotted a CNN interview. You're not going to get equal coverage but when you give the finger to the press in regards to Palin and other things, it's not going to get any better.

Bottom line, their press relations sucked.

What positive stories should they write? Every one is disgusted with Mccain/Palin rallies. Who wants to be associated with that filth. Even conservative commentators are disgusted and have called him out on it. Colin Powell has done the same.

The man let his campaign go into the gutter with racist, undertones and ugly vitriol that has no place in a democracy.

That sums it up in a nutshell. Along with the failing of the economy the mudslinging to new levels contributed to their fall. The RNC was pretty crazy in itself. At some high points during the convention it almost seemed like a pep rally to spew hate hidden behind the passionate chants of "USA!"

To argue ones policy is one thing but to then tie it to socialism or communism is just nonsense. But then again to the republicans fear works. Its what rally's them.
