Gm1 Hou 17-9 (-8)
Gm2 LA 30-18 (+12)
Gm3 LA 19-18 (+1)
Gm4 LA 24-18 (+6)
Gm5 LA 25-9 (+16)

= Lakers outscore Hou by 27 pts (4-1 in 3rd Qtr)

Gm1 LA 32-21 (+11)
Gm2 LA 23-12 (+11)

= Lakers outscore Minn by 9 pts (1-0 in 3rd Qtr)

Conclusion: Lakers are 11-1 and have outscore oppononents in the playoffs by 86 pts in the 3rd Qtr. It appears the Lakers 3rd qtr trend play is descent. I also expect the Wolves to play much better and keep the game close or even take the lead at halftime as this is almost a 'must-win' game for them!

Drunkin247 - good point. I have copied this thread to the NBA forum. As teams get deep into the NBA playoffs it seems that more posters are starting NBA threads offshore, not a lot we can do it seems.

You found the trend, I noticed it by game #3 last series. Why do you think this is happening? ...OF

Cassell leaves Game 2 early with back trouble
By Associated Press, 5/23/2004 20:57

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Minnesota guard Sam Cassell played just 43 seconds before heading to the locker room for treatment on his sore back during Game 2 of the Western Conference finals Sunday night.

Cassell's return was uncertain, the team said.

Cassell has been bothered by back trouble since early in the playoffs, and it kept him out of the final 13½ minutes of the Timberwolves' series-opening loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night.

He was in the Timberwolves' starting lineup for the 95th time in Minnesota's 96 games this season, but he made it through just two possessions before committing a foul and taking himself out of the game.

Cassell is averaging 18.8 points, 5.2 assists and 3.0 rebounds in the playoffs.

Journeyman Darrick Martin replaced Cassell in the Timberwolves' lineup.

Lakers cover... 19-17 win! Not even Garnett's 3 in the last 0.4 secs made a difference...
